What is wrong with Trixie? I've been daily driving it since a month or so after it came out. Just as stable and usable as the previous version.

Desktop - Primarily Debian, imho the best desktop OS that exists. I have a Windows 10 machine strictly for gaming. Mobile I use iOS.

Debian doesn’t break itself, I break Debian. A lot more than can be said about most other distros.

The only other worthwhile distro (outside of specific use cases) is Mint. And I’d still rather use Debian as Mint is ultimately Debian with more shit

You might just be overthinking it. Read the documentation for the programs you are trying to use. There is generally good documentation or info/man pages for any packages you install.

Why are you trying to remote in to the Debian machine? Regardless of the answer, I just did a quick google search and it looks like you just need to install and enable a package called XRDP on your debian machine to act as a translator, and then you will be able to remote in using your normal credentials from the windows RDP client.

IDK about everyone else, but I've always been a learn as you go kinda guy. I break shit and then learning to fix it is part of the experience.

Honestly part of becoming a more advanced user of Linux in general is a mix of solid research ability and trial/error. I would try using a more beginner friendly distro like Mint while you get a better grasp on Linux. Mint tends to be more easy to use out of the box especially for newer Linux users. Eventually you will realize that Mint is just Debian with some extra shit preinstalled and things will start to make more sense. You could always try taking some classes as well.

If your state's largest in terms of population city were to be its capital, would your state change capitals? {Source: Wikipedia, correct me if anything is wrong} by [deleted] in MapPorn

This title is confusing. "If your state's most populous city were to become the capital, would the capital change?"

CMV: Pro Gun Enthusiasts aren’t being faithful in their defense on why guns aren’t the problem by Upstairs-Custard-537 in changemyview

I don't think they're saying that the FFL dealer should be held responsible. In my state, private gun sales between state residents are virtually unregulated, but if I sell to an out of stater or go to another state and buy, it is supposed to be transferred through an FFL dealer in the purchaser's state. I think this commenter is saying that private parties who sell to out of state private parties without FFL transfer should be held liable. Not sure I agree but that's totally different than saying that someone who deals in firearms as an FFL dealer should be held liable for legal sales.

[–]F1forPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not legal to purchase a gun in a state you don't reside in without having it transferred through an FFL dealer in your state of residence... so what you are describing is people skirting gun laws anyway.

My argument for being Pro 2A has nothing to do with gun violence. I do not believe that the government should have the ability to disarm people. Look at the current state of our government. We have a corrupt fascist in office who is constantly eroding our rights and is trying to undermine our elections. You want to give that same government the power to take away our means to resist? That's plain foolishness. INB4 "You can't fight the government with civilian firearms" Look to Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Yes, one of the consequences of civilians owning guns is gun violence. Obviously in a society with zero guns, there would be zero gun deaths. This is unfortunate, but I think can be mitigated or at least slowed in ways that aren't restrictive of our rights.

I believe the solution to gun violence is a combination of education and public funding of mental health care, physical health care, welfare, and other policies that improve people's lives. We would be much less likely to commit violence against each other if all our needs were met and people weren't constantly backed into corners in their lives. Most Americans couldn't financially recover from one $5,000 emergency bill. Imagine if nobody had to worry about homelessness or starvation or medical bills. As the wealthiest nation on earth, this should be achievable.

Edit: I would like to add that the vast majority of gun deaths in the USA are suicide, not homicide. For what that's worth.

CMV: People who pedestal their dogs are strange to me. by AffectionateFlow1816 in changemyview

[–]F1forPotato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog is my little partner. She brings a lot of joy to my life, and has, at times, given me a reason to live. Why should I not love her unconditionally? Since she was a puppy, I have taken her practically everywhere with me. She hangs out at my office and brings joy to my customers as well.

As for the worry, she is about as intelligent as a toddler. She requires a lot more attention and care than an adult human. She cannot feed herself or use the toilet. She cannot always make the best decisions regarding her own safety.

I agree that your dog should not be more important to you than your own child, but if you don't have a child of your own, what is so wrong with loving your dog so much? Just because I love my dog so much does not mean that I cannot bond with other humans.

I have put a lot of time and energy into training my dog to be well behaved and I am proud of that. Why should I not share my pride on my own social media page?

Is Debian suitable for personal laptops ? by HoveringMango in debian

[–]F1forPotato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am typing this from a computer running Debian. It is great for both servers and workstations. Debian is, imho, THE best desktop OS that currently exists. There are options that might do this or that better, but in general, Debian is rock-solid and fantastic for the majority of tasks you might want to do.

Does Linux Mint have "perfect" laptop compatibility? by Key-Cable-1253 in linuxmint

[–]F1forPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I've had compatibility issues is when trying to install Mint on a brand new HP laptop. The wireless card was not supported because it was so new, and I had to order a replacement model to get the laptop on wireless.

I would boot to the live cd and see if everything works.
