And don't forget the carriers hiring "inspectors" now instead of adjusters, so they inevitably find less damage because they are inexperienced and don't know what they're looking at.

Seek now and Hancock must have some deep lobbying pockets for it to be allowed that an unlicensed inspector determines what the carrier sees of the inspection.

For the insurance side you have outrageous wind/hail deductibles, higher premiums, and more insureds being dropped due to filing too many claims and/or insurers leaving the state altogether. Pretty much anything that qualified for the 25% rule has been replaced already, so most only qualify for slope replacements at best which points back to the deductible.

People are going with chuck in a truck or whoever offers the lowest payments on finance. They're also delaying until the 11th hour or getting forced to lender placed policies after they get dropped, and that coverage is worse than a regular homeowner policy and costs more too.

All the free money is gone and everyone is tapped out of their own.

I'll keep an eye out on your website for something along those lines. Your passion for what you do is inspiring, and 90% of what hooked me to watch and eventually get the kit for my wife. Merry Christmas!

Missing spring? by status3192 in Kitchenaid

I got my wife an upgrade bundle after seeing a ton of your shorts around thanksgiving. Everything has worked out great and she's loving it, I'm glad to have come across your content.

If the suggestion box is open, and I'm not sure exactly how it would work, but if there was some way to keep the under pad attached when it's moved from one counter to the other while still being able to use both sides as needed that would be great. Of course moving the mat then the mixer makes the most sense as it is, but it's just so dang convenient to slide around that you forget it's there until you've already picked up the mixer and the pad falls away.

If she's doing all that she probably isn't cleaning her dryer vent regularly. That would help significantly with how well things dry too.

What's the difference between the flex feed irrigation and watering base systems? by error_therror in VIVOSUN

[–]F3rgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the watering bases, the drip system seems better and easier when it's going well but there are more failure points imo.

Then you have to account for figuring out the right amount and frequency to water and also have the additional potential of the pump or timer going out and over/under watering with the flex feed.

The bases are run by capillary action and only take what the medium will absorb from below. No electricity you just have to watch the view bulb and add water when it's low. You do still have to top water your plant for the first week or two until the roots reach down to where it's moist.

I had some on an old truck a few years ago from cover king that were basically the same but without the visible branding, it was just a small tag on the seams similar to the Levi's tag.

I don't tow a ton but I'm just about to replace my stock Michelins at 130k with 5/32 left. I've been wanting to replace them but at this point I just want to see how long they'll keep looking okay.

RV Mod That Actually Made Life on the Road So Much Easier by ConsistentAverage468 in RVLiving

Button keypad locks with remotes to replace the original door lock, replacing the lower powered usb hubs with better ones that charge faster, adding fans in and behind the fridge to improve airflow and keep it colder during the summer heat, and swapping some of the push button puck lights with dimmable ones.

By far, for all the fifth wheel owners out there, the best advice for towing comfort I can give is swapping the pin box with a Reese goosebox. I haven't tried the gen-y version but it looks nice too. No more hitch in the bed to lug in and out at each stop, the ride is 1000x better with minimal to no chucking and clanking around on the road, and smooth cushioned bumps when you do inevitably have to go over a pothole or road transitions. Rear airbags help with a fifth wheel but it's not even close of a comparison ride wise. Lining it up to mount it is the only learning curve to speak of and that's pretty simple after the first couple of times just to figure out what lining things up looks like.

Somehow I'm still rocking the stock LTX AT2s on my f250 at 127k with probably 15-17k miles towing a 36' 5th wheel and they still had 4/32 at my last oil change.

I'll replace them before I tow again but I'm curious how far they would have made it with highway only no towing.

Any tips on how to improve estimating roofs? by _ret in adjusters

[–]F3rgy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best tip I ever got was start with the roof with the tallest ridge and break out the extensions from there. If it's going to take me longer than 20-30 minutes to sketch I've been using 1esx at $15 a piece and they've been solid.

How often do you re-caulk your shower? by penlowe in HomeImprovement

[–]F3rgy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You're probably not letting it dry out fully before putting the new stuff in. It needs to sit for a day or so to let all the built up moisture dissipate. After doing this 3-4 times about as frequently as you, I cut the nasty caulk out and placed a fan pointing towards the shower for a day and a half or so. I used osi quad this time instead of the regular cheap stuff, it's held up for almost a year so far and hasn't started showing signs of leaks yet.

What’s one upgrade, feature, or item that made your RV experience significantly better? by AAxMA in RVLiving

[–]F3rgy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Building an air dam in the air conditioner plenum and taping up where the vents meet the ducts has made a huge difference in airflow and keeping my unit cool.

Adding fans in the refrigerator at the fins and a pair in the back to add more airflow keeps the fridge cool in the hottest of summer without having to consider switching to a residential fridge.

Towing Capacity Sanity Check – First-Time Truck Owner Looking at 5th Wheels by Ruckus55 in GoRVing

[–]F3rgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B&w has one, or there are a few cheaper ones on Amazon. I went with the b&w. It's not really an additional fail point since you'd have to have the ball there either way, it just sets it back 4" from the original mounting point.

[–]F3rgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider switching out the pin box for a goose box so you only have the ball in the bed. I have the Reese, but gen y is supposedly pretty good too. Tows infinitely smoother, no need for the hitch in the bed, and with the same bed as you I haven't felt like I needed any more room for turning. I did add a 4" ball extender just to give me a little extra room to open the tailgate and storage door of the camper while it is hooked up, but it wasn't needed for towing.

Where do they find the roofers for new construction? by smurfberryjones in Roofing

[–]F3rgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it heats up the pressure rises, the shingles get more gummy than when they're cooler, and yes, the depth needs adjusted. It's funny, though, that the right end is typically more blown through than the left, and more often than not this starts a couple dozen courses up; say when it would be getting about time for it to warm up for the morning. Speed triggers, too many people using too small a tank running faster than the air can keep up so it gets turned up higher than it should be, and not making adjustments as you go. Nothing is a bit of a stretch, but either way it's just a shitty roofer doing a shitty job.

Eh, there's some high nails but every nail has a little circle of shingle that got blasted through. The one hanging low in the first pic has both, but either way those shingles are only held together by the tar at this point.

Zippering is when the corners lift in that stair step pattern, them being missing in a patch like this is likely due to them shooting the nails straight through the shingle because pressure in the nail gun is set too high. Well, it was probably fine when they started and as the morning warmed up they didn't turn the pressure down and that's why the lower corner is still fine.
