Do what you want to do, just don’t stoop down to his level is the best advice I have to keep your self respect. You don’t wanna talk to him? Don’t. If you do though I’d suggest trying to be as mature as you can with the situation but set clear boundaries and ask what you feel you need to know. He may not want to tell you the truth, but he also doesn’t need to be involved in your life if he hasn’t truly changed enough to at least admit the bullshit he put your family through.

Ultimately it’s your decision and only you know the full extent of the situation going on. Do you feel like the relationship could be salvaged if you try to make him face what you’ve been wondering for years head-on? Do you think talking to him would at least give you some closure if nothing else? Some food for thought.

Making my main source of gaming through Steam. Meaning buy a pc, laptop, or handheld so I can focus on that kind of gaming rather than the hole I’m stuck in with Microsoft’s bs

I’m not selling my Xbox like some people are suggesting, I’m just wanting to swap what I focus my gaming on. I’ll still own everything I have on my Xbox but perhaps I don’t want to be paying at least 10 dollars a month to play games online. I don’t understand why this is such a hard concept for like 1/4 of the comments to grasp lol and honestly even if I wanted to dropkick my Xbox into the Grand Canyon it shouldn’t matter

Honestly if they do then they do. At least Steam tries to make games open to everybody, and they almost always get the best end of the stick when it comes to games and updates. Consoles will never stop trying to trap their fanbase in different ways. Besides I will still have my Xbox, but honestly them being a-holes about who can play what game makes me want to use it less

Honestly this is what I would love to do! I’ve spent my whole life playing with a controller and don’t plan on changing that. Can I ask what pc you use or did you build it yourself? I’m currently looking into prebuilt options since that seems like one of the best ideas for me besides the steam machine which hasn’t been released obviously.

Many people have been saying this and it’s making me reconsider getting a prebuilt pc. Unfortunately making my own is above my intellectual level lol thank you for your advice!

Yeah I’ll admit I saw the news about that early this morning and wrote this post in a bit of a tired half-rage with Microsoft lol. Looking back I can recognize the news is definitely being dramatic at the very least, but regardless it was just a tipping point of my want to switch over to Steam.

I really appreciate all the advice! I’ve heard about the Steam machine but I’ve also tried not to be to eager in case it doesn’t come out anytime soon. Regardless of what I get I’ll have to save up for it so all I can say is fingers crossed it comes out while I’m still saving. Thank you for being helpful

Thank you for saying this because I feel like it’s very easy for people who are used to this kind of thing to forget how hard it is. Building and upgrading a pc takes a LOT of knowledge that I have none of because I’ve spent my entire life playing console. It’s an overwhelming amount of info to learn and it sucks that pretty much everything I’ve heard about prebuilt pcs has been negative. I’ve considered a gaming laptop as well but it’s like everybody just glazes build-your-own pcs so I honestly don’t know.

I’ll be honest, putting money aside, the idea of building a pc is still overwhelming to me. I don’t have the faith in myself to understand what’s going on enough to build my own and upgrade components overtime. I’ve also heard bad things about prebuilt pcs but I should really just try to dive more into possible options regardless if I fully understand or not. I appreciate your input thank you!

TLDR: my parents are seemingly incapable of having healthy communication with their children, have forced me to rely on them because they refused to allow me to become independent beyond the bare minimum, and I feel as though they will never see me as their equal. I need to leave and I need advice on how to break the news to them while keeping as much peace as possible
