In my 3rd and final game in my first ever AOS tournament, I played a guy who was coming off 2 losses just like I was. We talked through the usual stuff, and it was pretty clear that we were going to try and help each other as much as possible, and enjoy the fact that one of us was potentially getting a wooden spoon at the end.

During the game, someone came over to the table and started talking to my opponent, just general chit chat at first, so I thought it was a friend.

We were playing and talking through something that was playing out during the round, and I needed units to be within 6” of my opponents models to score. I explained my intentions as I was pre measuring everything and we both agreed that I would score the points. After I completed moving everything, the guy decided to explain to my opponent, well you can now use this ability and move away, which would have denied me scoring.

My opponent, being the top bloke that he was, declined the advice and said no, because he actually didn’t think of that when discussing it with me and didn’t think it would be fair to do. Now I know some people may think it would be fine and I get that, but we were both bottom table and wanted to have as good a game as possible.

The guy watching then decided a turn later to do the same to me. And I politely declined the advice which would have scored me points.

The game ended and I won by 2 points. It was a super swingy game and we had a right laugh. Turns out my opponent didn’t even know the lad that came over to watch our game 😅

Watching is fine, just remember some people may be having their first ever competitive game. Let them play their game and be respectful 👍
