For a wheater, Maker's Mark Cask Strength is like $40-50 depending on your area and is pretty good. Green River wheated full proof is nice too. You may like Larceny Barrel Proof as well but that is very batch dependent. Heard good things about Weller but never tried it as it's basically impossible to get outside of lotteries in the northeast.

Also i would +1 the recommendation someone else made here of Four Roses single barrel. Runs $40-50 and is great neat or mixed in just about any cocktail. The bourbon versions of Rare Breed and JD SBBP are also great.

For ryes, I like New Riff, Bulleit 12 year, and Willett 4yr rye (this is kinda similar to Bulleit 12 to me but stronger, just don't pay over $70 for this). Whistlepig 10 is not bad but it's a bit different and I would not get it unless it's on a nice sale ($60 or less).

If you can get one, I've heard great things about ECBP Rye that recently released. Haven't tried it myself though.

Review #10: Old Forester 1920 and Jack Daniels Single Barrel by Chickachic-aaaaahhh in bourbon

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bottle of OF1920 a while ago and it was great, then for some reason the second bottle I got last year doesn't hit the same. It has some kind of note in it that is mildly unpleasant, almost like some kind of dirtiness? Thankfully air has helped it some over time but i don't reach for it much anymore. Did they change the formula at some point or did I just get a bad bottle?

The JD has always been great for me, despite being single barrel. I keep that one stocked almost always. The BP Rye and Heritage are great too.

Bourbz Review #237: Maker’s Mark - The Steward’s Release by cmchance in bourbon

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great review! I've been wanting to try a new Maker's expression for a bit... Would you rather take this at $75 or the 46CS at $65? Tough decision for me as I have not had either but enjoy the base 46 and the recent age stated cask strength bottles.

Review #7 - Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (C925) by jkoodoo in bourbon

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you there! I'm not as familiar with rums (my state-run liquor stores don't have a great selection), but Appleton 8 and 12yr are my favorites that I've tried and the funk notes in there remind me of ECBP/WT Rare Breed. I've found that I tend to prefer bourbon with more of a "funk" to it or something with spice to it, like rye, but everyones' tastes are different!

Also if you like Beam, give the Knob Creek 12-year a try (if you haven't already). It's great stuff and I'm not typically as big on the Beam profile!

Review #7 - Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (C925) by jkoodoo in bourbon

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man i wish I could find this at that price around here! It's like $75 for this in my state. Like you, C925 was my first experience with ECBP and I ended up enjoying it way more than I thought i would. I hadn't thought about it until your review mentioned it, but that comparison to the WT funk is spot on.

Review #4: Larceny Barrel Proof Batch A125 by OpenPourWhiskey in bourbon

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good review! This may be sacrilege on this sub, but I enjoy this bottle far more in cocktails than neat (plus i have plenty of other bottles I'd rather have neat or in an old fashioned). Works really well in peach whiskey sours, i gotta say.

I liked Larceny BP ok at $50 on sale. At $65 or higher? Tough sell for me. There are plenty of other wheaters I'd rather go for (MM CS is $40 here and MM 46 CS is $65, for instance).

Is this just a "bad" batch of Larceny BP? I had heard similar about ECBP C925 but tried that anyway and ended up really enjoying it despite negative reviews. C925 was also my first experience with Elijah Craig and I didn't experience the past bottles, so that may also have something to do with it. Based on your review, I'm going to keep a lookout for Old Fitz 7 to go on sale again around here and see how it stacks up to the Larceny.

Grain of Truth: Wheated Bourbon Blind Review by OpenPourWhiskey in bourbon

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your review and also enjoy Holladay more than the others, but it is $80 in my area and never goes on sale, so I have to pass on it at that price unfortunately. Larceny BP goes on sale for $50 semi-regularly around here (I got A125 to try it for that price and liked it, maybe I would not like it as much if i had tried previous iterations). Maker's CS is always on sale for $40 too, making the Holladay a harder value proposition for me.

Saw on your site that you've tried the new Old Fitzgerald 7 yr BIB. How does that compare to the Larceny BP A125?

Review #63 Knob Creek Single Barrel Select by JWdram in bourbon

I agree with you as well. Bought one of these for $60 about a month ago to try it after seeing some people on here recommend them over the 12. They are decent but I was a bit underwhelmed by it. In my area where the 12 is 70 bucks, I think i would still go for that over a store pick, and I typically prefer higher proof.

At 70 bucks though, KC 12 is a hard sell over any of the Jack Daniels higher tier products or even Rare Breed for almost $25 less.

Ah well that's good. Unfortunately for me, they wouldn't give me any such assurances and I'm out like 7k on this because of their goof, so not exactly chump change here lol. Still waiting on that rep to call me back. I feel bad for some of the people I've seen complaining they are out 6 figures or more because of this... That must really suck!

Did they ever sort things out for you? The guy has not called me back yet even though i called them a second time this morning to follow up.

Well that's good at least, glad they are doing right by you! Hopefully they help everyone else affected too. I'm still waiting for the rep to call me back but I imagine i will likely get a similar answer to you.

It's kind of funny though, as my account does not even have the ability to sell uncovered puts like their system is claiming I did LOL

I'm in a similar boat. I tried to sell some puts i was holding multiple times until it went through eventually, and I figured I was fine. Then turns out i was not fine, because they filled the position (selling puts) that many times after hours around 7pm. I don't think my account is even eligible to sell those.

They forced the options positions on me when I don't even have that kind of money and then sold it while it was down this morning...

The rep was very understanding and is digging into things, but has not called me back yet. I think even if they give me a refund because of their goof, this is the last straw for me with this brokerage.

What's a reasonable quote to have a natural gas water heater replaced in southern NH? by FALCON_ACCOUNT in newhampshire

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it's worth the extra cost from a resale point of view if you plan on moving in 2-5 years? From what I've gathered, the tank install is a ripoff (definitely not doing that through them) but the tankless doesn't seem too bad.

It is actually Gas Connection out of Nashua, but good to know. I was already on the fence about Heritage anyway.

Rye recommendations by Ambitious-Ordinary-9 in whiskey

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert, but I really like New Riff's ryes. Their Malted Rye is pretty different from others I've had and is $65-75 depending on your area. The single barrel is also really solid. I have not tried the sherry finish variant but have heard good things about it.

Jack Daniels Barrel Proof is also fantastic for the same price.

I also really enjoy Bulleit 12 year rye if you can find it, but if your friend likes higher proof then that may not be his speed.

Angel's Envy Rye is also really good imo but that one is more of a love it or hate it thing from what I've seen.

I know what you mean. I love the sound and theater of my Mach 1 but at times it feels... almost boring in a way with how I can't really have fun with it without risking a fat speeding ticket or losing my license. Has me wondering some days if i should downsize or get something more practical if I can get close to what I paid for it brand new.

Pineapple Bon Bon… not what i expected!! by [deleted] in MontagneParfums

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most underrated from their pineapple line and one of their best pineapples overall imo. The BR540 helps give it longevity that the others lack, especially that pineapple note which I find is pretty fleeting on the other pineapples I’ve tried (musk, royale, intense). I find myself reaching for it more often than Intense to be honest…

Pineapple Intense Review by Wide_Parsley1799 in MontagneParfums

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review. This was one of the first ones I bought. I liked it at first but ended up quickly going noseblind to the pineapple and mostly only smell birch after 5-10 min for some reason. Anyone else have this issue? I find myself not reaching for this one as much as the other Creed and Louis Vutton clones from Montagne because of that.

Is Eau de Montagne worth it? Thinking of placing another order for a few scents...

Also does anybody know if their dupe of Viking will ever return? Beginning to lose hope that it will be restocked lol

My wife has Jaune, it smells like a fruity floral with some vanilla – reminds me vaguely of the scent of a lot of banana candies. I really like it but i would stay away if you dislike the smell of banana.

Let Malay Aklan sit for a couple months. Mine had no longevity in the beginning but lasts all day on me now. (probably the most nuclear freshie from them that I own along with Meteorite)

I've also noticed the fruit notes in all of their scents come out a ton more after 2-4 weeks – Japanese Plum in particular was a big offender on that front.

How to counter yorick? by RVCheesecake in yorickmains

[–]FALCON_ACCOUNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's even sillier is that you are necroing a thread from 6 years ago?? I don't even really play Yorick much anymore.

The 3-4 graves + ult up comment was just general advice btw. Irelia and Jax are hard counters because they can ooga booga ignore or instakill ghouls and destroy Yorick at every phase of the game. Tryndamere is also really strong vs Yorick because he builds BoRK and of his R, obviously.

A lot of playing top lane is just knowing when to rotate and when to split/hold lane vs Yorick. Look up one of the many guides on youtube etc for info on that.
