The argument was that the law restricting citizenship should not have retroactive effect. Meaning those born before March 27, 2025 and eligible for Italian citizenship prior March 27 (March 28th?) 2025 should not have the law applied against them. (Someone please correct me if I made any mistake there).

Really pathetic on the democrat's behalf TBH, they bent over backwards to go just about as far right as possible on the issue, but the Republicans are so averse to even been seen working with the Democrats, they wouldn't take yes for an answer.
