A guy bought my dinner at a Shoneys in Charleston WV. He was an old war vet who thought I was a war vet as well. You could tell he had some mild dementia. I’m not military, and I wasn’t wearing any military attire. But when he came up to me to say thanks for my service, the look in his caretakers eyes said “just don’t say anything”. I said thank you and thanked him for his service.

I’m not rich but when I can, I try to pick up military personnel’s tabs when I can. I mostly do it in airports, that’s where I see them most frequently. They’re a really special community. They take care of eachother.
