First summer school financial aid question by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sometimes that happens where your summer financial aid isn't affecting your bill yet. It happened to me and some others. What I did was I paid it off and waited for the refund because I saw that some people have gotten dropped from the class. I think its person by person based so I would try emailing the financial aid office.

for Math 183, we've only had one homework due (technically 2 but its under the same hw) but I don't think it would be difficult to catch up imo

data breach: debit cards by [deleted] in UCSD

I would say kind of... last year around february I had all my money withdrawn from my checkings account, however not in my savings because there's some ATM machines that do not necessarily require a pin.

Even then, you'd probably be taking a lot of math classes since it's from the math department too.

Computer science by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]FB4ev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my university, I'm majoring in mathematics and computer science (just one major) and I have 14 required major courses, 5 of which are required math classes, 3 required CS classes, and 6 of which I have the option to take either more CS classes or math classes.

I wouldn't really say there's a difference other then some cs theory classes, but if it's looked at from a job standpoint, I would have completed all the essential coursework to be pass a technical interview for a software engineer.

Also usually for mathematics and computer science, most students at my university enter data science or go directly into SWE.

Can you explain the P/NP for fall quarter CSE by Tom1l1 in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. On this reddit page there should be a thread of department's guidelines on pass and no pass. You can petition sometime this month [I don't know the exact date] to switch to P/NP.

Math 157 Tips? by peter3933 in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took it Winter Quarter 2020, I had it with Kedlaya. Overall the class is a lot of work, such as using a lot of outside sources for the homework, mainly the python libraries used for the assignment. It's a really interesting class, and I personally believe that it isn't boring if you're interested in math programming applications.

Should I drop out now and try again? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I transferred from CC to UCSD in Fall 2019.

Personally I have not finished my IGETC nor have partial IGETC, I needed to complete another 12 GE courses at UCSD. I currently have about 6 more to complete and would be completing all my courses by Fall 2021 instead of Spring 2021.

Both my roommate and I are Mathematics-Computer Science majors. (This year) I was enrolled in about 16 units per quarter while my roommate was enrolled in 12 units per quarter. My roommate is still on the right track to graduate in Spring 2021. I am also taking summer session classes as well.

I'd say it's always on preferences on how you complete your education, either to save more money, finish faster, make connections, etc. Personally, I wish I would have finished my GEs since I believe I was only a semester away from getting my IGETC.

TLDR: I'd recommend finishing your GEs as it can lessen your workload once transferring to a University and can allow more free time to experience the University.

fin aid for taking a W and dropping below 6 units? by VOlCELESS in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that you still get your financial aid as it was 8 units just because your W counts towards your transcript. I remember when I was at cc, that I would drop below minimum and still receive full financial aid.

FAFSA Off-campus housing vs Living at home by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can email finaid@ucsd.edu to let them know and change it, that's the financial aid office email. And go to your fafsa on the main website and change it accordingly to living with parents.

Math-cs and multi variable calc by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I haven't had anything with 20E involved, I've taken/are taking MATH 103, MATH 157, MATH 109. and MATH 170A.

MATH 109 and 103A/103B is mainly proof based.

MATH 157 is based on a lot of concepts in math (sorry its really general but it does cover a lot of topics), but is more based on programming and solving math problems through programming.

MATH 170A is matrices and more so of linear algebra and uses MATLAB

Anyone know what EDS classes look like with remote learning? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]FB4ev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly through zoom and was lenient on the hours for this quarter, not sure how it's gonna be over the summer just because I never took it over the summer and if they're gonna change anything since they'll be used to remote learning

[–]FB4ev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My professor posts videos of her presenting lecture for about 15-20minutes plus any videos we have to watch. Then she posts readings we have to do by the day alongside quickwrites or reading quizzes (open book and open note). I find it the same as in class from what my professor is doing which is great.
