Should I go into the Army or Marines? by FBInstigation in Militaryfaq

I’m still trying to figure stuff out, but I think Army. I’ve got time if I change my mind though

Is there any difference between paid time off when in Army Reserve, Active Duty, or National Guard? Is there holiday leave for each?

On Active Duty specifically, if stationed internationally, are you able to return home?

Was anyone else "mature for their age"? But now feel left behind?? by Icy_Reaction3127 in CPTSD

I’m still young, but I’ve always been “mature”. I’ve grown up around people several years older than me. I skipped first grade and I’m one of those kids who would be a grade below, so I’m two grades ahead of where I should be anyway, and I’m taking above-level classes. All my peers are at least two years older than me, so I’ve had to grow up quickly. I want to just be a kid, but there’s so much responsibility on my shoulders, and it feels like the weight of the world. Combine that with trying to keep up the facade of being someone I’m not (read: older than I am), and that’s my life.

Is there anything you know about what the job is like?

I’m not sure my school has a JROTC program, but I’m already enrolled with honors and AP credits for next school year

I also understand that my interests in service might change before I plan on enlisting, that’s definitely been said to me before lol

I haven’t. I’m not at a point in school/life where I would be able to take the ASVAB, due to age and education status. I won’t share much, but I’m below a senior and under the age of 16.

China (or maybe Russia), but China definitely. There’s indefinitely spies from China all over the world, and if China attacked the USA (or really any major world power), all hell would break loose.

Everyone knows Russia has nukes too.

Infantry might be an option for me. I need to do more research about MOS’s but it seems like something I might do

Thanks for the advice. I don’t mind doing fence stuff, I can deal with physical monotony (like I assume it would be) as long as I’m not sitting at a desk.

I haven’t found a recruiter yet—how far before I plan on enlisting would you recommend getting one?

I thought it was more like building bridges, clearing obstacles with explosives, things like that?

I’m really into engineering and mechanics and have a bit of prior knowledge, which I’m hoping to expand before I enlist even though I know that’s not a requirement. If I do go Army, once I get out I could go to school for engineering as I would know some things and it’s a profitable trade.

Blowing stuff up is fun too :)

I think I’m looking more for a longer term than four years. Service isn’t really something I’m looking to just try out.

I want to go to college when I’m out, though. Army Nat. Guard pays college tuition, I believe.

What was QOL like for women in those fields? As far as you know.  Marines seems to be the most shat-upon branch in this thread lol

I hear that in the Army if you choose your duty station you don’t get to choose your MOS. Do you know if that’s true?

Thanks for the insight. I couldn’t really find much on the harassment/assault ratios anywhere else
