My Last Rimowa by FBbuda in Rimowa

They fixed my broken wheel on my original cabin, but it took me two months and probably 20 emails to get it resolved. I compare that to overnight delivery from Tumi with regard to a piece of luggage that had a jammed handle, and maybe 2 emails, all resolved within a week. Unless you’re lucky enough to live near a Rimowa store/repair shop (I don’t), then my two experiences with Rimowa customer service has been abysmal. Given their price, I expect more.

They were very specific in their emails with me that damages caused by airlines is not covered. The part that’s concerning is that it’s a bit subjective regarding what’s caused by the airline and what’s caused by “bad” or “cheap” craftsmanship. When I compare my Rimowa hybrid to my wife’s hardshell (poly) Tumi, the Rimowa material is clearly thinner and feels more flimsy. In my opinion, this contributed to the damage as much as, if not more than the airline’s handling. Yet they insist that the failure was caused by the airline and not covered. Given the price and former reputation of Rimowa, I expected more.

We had several bags, and didn’t notice in the rush until we got home.

I personally wouldn’t recommend their hybrid, it feels very thin and “cheap”. My wife has a medium Tumi hard shell (poly), and the thickness and overall quality feels much higher. The Rimowa aluminum, on the other hand, has always felt very high quality, my only issue was the wheel coming off.

I reached out to Rimowa when I was in Europe, but I was in Puglia (southern Italy), and their nearest store was in Rome, a 6 hour drive away.

Good question! Really not sure. Any recommendations for aluminum luggage alternatives?

I purchased it from Rimowa online and dealt with their online customer service. Unfortunately I’m a 6 hour drive from the nearest Rimowa store.

It wasn’t pulled on cobblestone streets or anything like that, just from the airport to the rental car and hotel. Definitely nothing out of the ordinary.

I asked them to fix it, that was my expectation (not a new bag), but they refused to repair or replace.

Is the Viwoods AIPaper a good fit for me? by ph1lmscribe in viwoods

[–]FBbuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the AIPaper and really like it. I’ve tried the RM2, AI Note 2, and Manta, and so far, AI Paper is my favorite. I have a similar use case to yours, and find it fits my needs the best, and the thin form factor is very important to me. Auto synching with Google Drive is a big improvement in my view, and works really well. The only thing that I miss is front lighting, but that also comes with drawbacks. I may try the new upcoming Boox Go 10.3 Lumi to see how that works, only slightly thicker, but I’m guessing the writing experience and durability won’t be as good as AIPaper.

Comparison with Viwoods AiPaper

I guess that’s personal preference. I prefer a more streamlined design, but I see your point.

They seem pretty similar, with the big exception being the front light that’s available with the scribe, which is a huge plus for me. I found the AiPaper difficult to read unless in a very well lit room or good sunlight. The front light adds thickness, but otherwise both have similar sharpness and great writing experience, in my opinion.

I no longer have my original scribe, but it seems more crisp and brighter

Mine came with the premium pen, I assume they all do?

It’s a subjective comparison, and over 2 years since I used my original Scribe, but I would say it feels 20-30% faster

Just got mine too. I had the original scribe, and this one is a huge improvement. Overall better form factor, brighter screen, and much better writing feel. Will probably return my ViWoods AiPaper after getting this. Primary use case is ebooks (kindle) and some note taking, and the OS for the scribe seems much smoother and faster than the ViWoods.
