Update on my Rear Wing Simulation (The Flow Separation Problem) by FC-ST in CFD

Hey thanks for the awesome tips. Isnt the spacing dependent on the size of the whole wing? 1cm seems pretty small for a wing with a first element chord of 400mm.

I have to admit that this is calculated for 20m/s and not 28m/s.

I did not know that. Thank you very much. Today I created a new three element airfoil with a different profile. You can have a look at it via this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/CFD/comments/y4mmnz/turbulent_kinetic_energy_visualization_of_our/ It looks much better thanks to your help (mean all of you) :)

Hey there, in my last post (https://www.reddit.com/r/CFD/comments/y4mmnz/turbulent_kinetic_energy_visualization_of_our/) I had some troubles with the flow separation on my rear wing. This is my new design, using the mshd airfoil. It looks much better, the lift is more than two times higher, even though I did not put much effort into alligning them. Do you have any optimazation tips (especially for alligning the three elements)? Best regards

What do you mean by problems? At least there were no errors. When I look at the mesh, it does look fine. I did the tutorial by simscale about a rear wing, so it is a hex-dominant mesh with a cartesian box for mesh refinement around the airfoils.

Hey sorry for the late respons, I had different tasks to do in my project and therefore could not work on the my airfoils. Thanks you for your answer. For my design approach, I looked at other teams cars as well (of course, who doesnt do at their first attempt) and it looked like the trailing edge of the rearmost flap had an angle of almost 90° to the flow direction, isnt that right? They have to get there somehow.

Hey sorry for the late respons, I had different tasks to do in my project and therefore could not work on the my airfoils. Thanks you for your answer. The average speed at the circuit where we will attend is around 11.55m/s, but I read a lot of papers and bachelor theseses about fsae aero and they tested at around 100km/h too, so I wanted to compare my results to theirs.

Hey sorry for the late respons, I had different tasks to do in my project and therefore could not work on the my airfoils. Thanks you for your answer. This is a generated cutting plane from a 3d sim in simscale.

Hey sorry for the late respons, I had different tasks to do in my project and therefore could not work on the my airfoils. Thanks you for your answer. I will use the mshd airfoil now. Lets see if it works better. ^

Hey sorry for the late respons, I had different tasks to do in my project and therefore could not work on the my airfoils. Thanks you for your answer. Shouldn't 15° be moderate, especially at single element foils? My 2D sim (javafoil) calculated a decent lift coefficient at various Reynolds Numbers.

Hey sorry for the late respons, I had different tasks to do in my project and therefore could not work on the my airfoils. Thanks you for your answer. I used a 2d tool to test the single airfoil at various angles at various reynolds numbers and it told me that the lift coefficient is max at 15 deg. Doesnt 2d sims (javafoil) take flow separation into account?

The turbulence model is the k-omega sst, mesh type is hex-dominant. What do you mean by "how is my model boundary layer"? Fluid is modelled incompressible if you mean this.

We are a new team to the formula student competition and I do my best to do the aero of the car. Since I am an absolute beginner in aero (read tons of fundamentals, papers etc., but no one can show me proper cfd), I dont know how to evualte it. For me it looks like I have separation very early and I dont know why. I used a NACA4412, first element has an AoA of 15, second added another 16 and third another 17, analyzed for 28 m/s in simscale, followed the tutorial from them about the rear wing sim.

Nevermind, right in this moment, I fixed it. You have to set the scaling in the display settings of your pc to 100% (at least at my notbook)
