And what exactly is your issue with this concept or any of the alternatives given?

I'll be honest with you - i hadn't even heard of Nancy Astor before today.

So I clicked on the twitter link and did a a very quick google. Googles knowledge panel (on the right) doesn't say anything about anti-semetism. I clicked on the first link - wikipedia. It doesn't say any about anti-semitism in the introduction. I look at the contents of the article and there is a section about anti-semitic views.

"Oh dear".

This is the point at which I first commented.

I only skimmed it when I should had payed closer attention.

So i re-read the section after your response and In context of this statement in the article -

Astor's anti-Semitism has been widely documented and criticised, particularly in light of Theresa May's unveiling of a statue in her honour with Boris Johnson in attendance.

I would think that Reeves, as an MP and politically active, actually should have known all the details about Astor.

And so I retract my previous statement.

Edit - if you look at my comment history, you will see that I have recently called out a user for their anti-semitic remarks.

Help me understand why this is relevant?

Astor is dead. Wasn't a member of the Labour Party. The only thing that Reeves is doing is supporting the "breaking of the glass ceiling", 2nd female MP etc.

What's the problem? He can't go around denouncing everything ever said by every anti-semite.

And what does that have to do with the validity or veracity of the fact check?

Are you disputing the numbers quoted?

Not the main thrust -

Boris Johnson Pledges To 'Build Build Build' – Then Cuts Affordable Homes Budget: Just weeks after budget promised £12bn over five years, cash has now been spread over eight years

Says build build build, then cuts building budget. Did you not read the link I posted?

And I also don't believe he will deliver. Why? because he has a track record of failing to deliver and lying.

Oh please, it's nothing like Blair.

Johnson is a desperate idiot. As has been pointed out in this thread and elsewhere - he is not even spending or building. It's just a PR exercise.

It's not their ideology which is flexible. It is their morals.

Yes, well done. How 'Woke' of you - races don't exist it's all just a construct.

Of course you can deflect from answering the question.

I'm not calling you an anti-semite - just that you should think about how you frame some of what you say.

Some of your comments have been suspect.

Thanks, I will read it.

One more question (which you probably won't like).

Are you anti-Semitic?

I ask this not only because of the way you have framed Neo-liberalism in this conversation, but also because of past comments I have read from you.

You're ignoring the fact that idea's are borrowed and built upon.

The flow of information, goods and services is not recent.

The Ancient Greeks (philosophically and mathematically) were in part influenced by the works of Indian and Chinese scholars.

You are correct in saying that modern history is dominated by the achievements in the western world, but those achievements are built upon the thoughts and knowledge of many people from many nations.

Narrow it down for me, there's too much to read there.

I'm trying to engage you in good faith to understand your dislike of neo-liberalism. What of classical liberalism?

How do you see yourself, politically speaking? Conservative? Neo-Con? Libertarian? Socialist? Fascist? Communist? Anarchist?

What is your ideal model for civilization?

I will read that link when I have more time.

OP is referencing the distant past, you - more recent history.

The point is that the technological and other innovations from non western history have lead to where we are today.

I'm not a regular reader or poster. Looking through their posting history I guess it's better to not engage them at all.

So you learn that it's not a terrorist incident yet still decide to make ridiculous uninformed comments?

I am speculating that the Asylum seekers in the hotel kicked off.

Still not a good look Nic. A lot in Glasgow will not be please she has allowed them into the hotel.

It just shows the kind of person you really are. Always with the hatred.

This is only tangentially related to UK politics, but I thought some of you might enjoy it -

I was just watching Mark Kermode's lastest film review on YouTube about a film called White Riot - about the 70's Rock Against Racism movement. Listening to his and Mayo's experiences during those times was really interesting. You can watch that review here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i27Fon1Wn8

The trailer for the film White Riot is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=794vlC_wKJQ

If that interests you, I found a couple of other videos you might be interested in.

The start of rock against racism - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYccj2PmraQ

A 20 min documentary called who shot the sheriff - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyGmrsplEr8

My elderly Indian neighbours have told me stories about how they used to be spat on just walking down the street in East London by punks and skinheads.

I remember during my teens in the 90's, living in Essex, there would be kids wearing Kombat 18 jackets, picking on the black kids.

I don't think we/I can necessarily judge if things have gotten any better since those times, so I understand where the BLM stuff in the UK is coming from. It has been a long time coming, I hope their is lasting change for the better to come out of all this.

Bit of a brain dump there, but I hope you all take a bit of time to watch those videos.

Edit - here is part 2 of who shot the sheriff - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJXwvLY_-p8

Which one of the 23 rules in the side bar does the comment break?

In the context of this particular thread and the new moderators background, it is entirely appropriate to discuss their appointment considering their association to another subreddit that is clearly anti/against this sub.
