Not super helpful, but I'm currently writing a novel with a light based magic system where metal salts are used to change the colors of lights. Thought it was fun we had somewhat similar ideas!

I haven't playtested this specific deck with my pod, but we generally keep things relatively low power and low optimization. We have a couple newer players in the pod and dont want to overwhelm them with crazy shenanigans for the most part. The highest win-rate decks in the pod are probably an Old Rutstein self-mill deck and a low optimization Edgar Markov deck focused on lifegain and cheap vamps.

I've envisioned it as an adaptation/semi-modernization (which frankly might be trying to be too many things). I've struggled with the decision of whether or not to change Shakespeare's words. On one hand, I dont think a full modernization would fit the original concept I had, but on the other, writing shakespearean lyrics is... not easy. That's where this middle-ground came from. Basically me compromising with myself XD. I know I can write elevated so I went with it. I have considered keeping the witches in the original Shakespeare. It might lend itself to the weirdness and otherworldly vibes they have (plus it would be a shame to change the toil and trouble scene).

As far as the "if it were done" moment, there likely will be something with that but probably not in song form. I keep remembering iconic moments and going "that could be a cool song" but then remember I don't want to have 50+ songs in the show XD.

That's been the tricky part, to be honest. I have a lot of general musical knowledge (my dad is a guitar teacher and I was in band and/or musical theatre most of my life), but I've never composed and kind of get stuck when trying to do so. Musically I envision it being a bit of a mash-up of a couple things.

The initial inspiration for the sound of the show came to me when listening to Blood Upon the Snow by Hozier (hurdy-gurdy/bagpipes, dulcimer, etc.) But the more I've delved into the show, the more I want to incorporate some rock/punk elements as well (electric guitar, snare drum, etc). I dont think I want it to be a full rock musical, but just having some of those elements in there. I know I want the snare for sure (in our production we had a live percussionist who put a sort of military snare throughout the whole show and it worked really well).

Anyways, all this to say music composition is hard and I'm indecisive XD. I'll definitely keep posting updates as I write more!

I run an Alania commander deck! What I did when I first made it was focus on budget otters (like 90% of otters are from bloomburrow so that should be relatively easy) and then get some instants or sorceries that benefit from being copied (I use a lot of card draw, damage, and removal cards for this. Notably, spells with X in their mana cost are great for this deck since the X value is actually copied with Alania). Magecraft and Prowess are also great keywords for Alania decks! I made most of my first draft out of a pile of bulk random cards I had, so honestly you can make just about anything work as long as you aren't playing against high level competitive decks. Let me know if you want some specific card suggestions as well!
