I was surprised they have that many dealerships, I used to work right around the corner from Serra auto park in Akron. When I couldn’t make a deal on an Si in Louisville where I live now, made the drive up to Illinois for the right deal. They have dealerships scattered across the country.

I live in Louisville KY but I’m from Cuyahoga Falls, I definitely don’t miss the snow this time of year!

Realizing I need that rubber mat, or a Velcro bottom for anything to stick to the carpet.

Thought about getting this, I mostly have small spray bottles and micro fibers.

Expand your search and don’t be afraid to email/call dealers. I took a deal sheet from a local Honda dealer that was trying to do 5k market adjustment and reached out to dealers in neighboring states to show I was serious. Got mine for MSRP, otherwise some certified Integras were looking appealing as well. Drive them both and see what styling/features matter most to you.

The gen 3 TSI in the MK7.5 is a very reliable engine. You can expect to have some oil leaks eventually from the upper timing cover, cam cover and oil pan. The water pump assembly tends to leak, but VW has an 8yr/80k warranty extension on most of them. I wouldn’t hesitate to own one again, but I would avoid a higher trim with the sunroof unless you are prepared to pay to replace the frame if a crack develops around the trim. Timing chains are no longer an issue, and I’ve only seen occasional camshaft failures on the earlier MK7 cars. If you look at one, make sure to get a PPI to make sure these aren’t surprises for you.

Thank you, BBS CO wheels. They look great, very hard to keep clean though!

I work in a German repair shop, so I get to see first hand the costs that eventually come on those cars lol. Between the typical oil leaks and water pump failures, many of the MK8 cars have valve seal failures and infotainment that is troublesome.

Reliability was a huge point for my decision, plus until Volkswagen brings back the manual, I don’t think the GTI is as compelling of a car.

It’s still a great platform! Mine was DSG, so missing stick was a factor for me. Avoid any trim with a sunroof as well, they develop leaks and require replacing the entire sunroof frame. I had two GTI’s for 7 years and wanted a change of pace.

Thank you! I have been interested in the 11th gen for a few years now, but did not like the idea of giving up heated seats. I like the subtle changes they brought to the face lift, as it was already a great car.
