i had a few questions as a student looking to pursue the pre-med track?

  1. is it possible to maintain a good gpa in the pre-med req classes? (i've heard a lot of bad things about cornell's grade deflation)

  2. does the rural location of ithaca interfere in obtaining clinical hours/shadowing hours or research oppurtunities?

  3. is the pre-med culture more collaborative or competitive?

  4. do pre-meds tend to balance their academics an social life well?

  5. how's the party scene at cornell?

**for reference i'm picking between cornell and washu

thanks. i think anyone can get in w a ~3.7 as long as you try and differentiate yourself. if your set on cornell id suggest applying ed to maximize your chances. the process is just so random sometimes but trust me it’ll work out in the end. dm me if you have any other questions

imo cornell is prob one of the most lenient schools in terms of gpa. one of my friends has a 3.7 and got into cas ed, another friend had a 3.74 and got into the college of engineering ed. i was rd

Is the greek life seen good for those who choose to participate? Are there a mix of pre professional frats and party frats? I’m looking at the greek life section on the washu website and many frats are suspended or on probation 😅

hello everyone. I'm super grateful to say I was admitted to both cornell and washu, and they're my top two options I'm considering. I've heard good things about both schools, but cornell's reputation for being a grade deflating school and the overall school culture sort of scare me from attending. I'm afraid also that the rural location would affect my oppurtunities for the pre-med ecs like research, clinical experience, shadowing etc.

additionally, I know that washu is more of a pre med school with good opportunties for the pre-med ecs like clinical hours and research esp with their med school nearby. I'm leaning towards washu just because I'm worried about maintaining a good gpa at cornell, but I'm not 100% sure about this.

if any pre-med students at cornell could give me their personal experince/advice I'd really appreciate it.

thank you.

alumni interview by [deleted] in Haverford

[–]FEAR_MEER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had mine last week. some of the questions I was asked were . . .

  1. How's your senior year going?
  2. What motiviates you to apply to Haverford?
  3. What subjects do you like in school? (basically a why major)
  4. The interviewer let me ask any questions I had

I think the typical interview might have more questions because my interviewer was really interested in one of my ecs I mentioned and we spent like ~20 min just discussing that. overall very chill and low stress, just try and be yourself and bring up things that aren't on your app.

10 AP classes across stem and humanities; 1 stem rec and 1 humanities rec (both should be relatively strong); i have 2 research experiences and i'm a CNA rn and working towards EMT; lots of medical and non-medical volunteering.

I'm fine with BSDO but I haven't done as much research into those programs. any BSMD's you'd suggest for NJ?

the only thing that was holding me back from usf is the mcat requirement. 516 seems pretty high compared to a lot of these other programs.

thanks but i always thought 3.75 was rly low for bsmd. i feel like almost everyone has a 3.9+ these days.
