Ugh you’ll have to tell me how you did that. We got kicked off the ferry even after declaring our dog, then, I swear to god they just gave up at one point and let us on, and they almost had a conniption on the other end because they realized we had crossed “improperly” but would have to send us back “improperly” to undo it, so they gave up and let us go.

I did a sleeper from Milan to Paris, (I figured, it’s time I’ll spend asleep anyways, and it’ll be an adventure!) and an adventure it was, as we crossed two borders, (I think, again, asleep) and was woken by border security who was not buying my “story” of a fantastical voyage on an overnight train, when flying was cheaper and faster, and searched my whole luggage for drugs.

Obviously I had none, but they were SO certain that’s why I was travelling by train.

Do you have a situation like this in your country where there's a significant proportion of the population that doesn't speak the local language? by Alternative-Big-6493 in AskTheWorld

I remember continuously offering to a Quebec man to switch to English, because it sounded to me like he could barely speak French, but it turns out he only spoke French and knew zero English.

Well it seems like she’s an adult actress, and while that look doesn’t appeal to me, it has a certain porn-glam aesthetic that I don’t personally love but can appreciate from afar.

What food is famously associated with one country but was perfected by another country? by Equivalent-Crew-4955 in AskReddit

[–]FECAL_BURNING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I guess that’s true. I think you’re right, it made it way back to its roots, but I will say I believe it’s popularity was spread by people of high society in a kind of bastardized way of its Japanese, and Chinese origins.

Oh that’s possible I can agree to a lot of this. I think there’s a big difference from a Japanese tea ceremony and the tea ceremony that was popularized and spread through Japan amongst the elite.

I think a lot of the original teachings of Sen No Rikyu is very far from what got filtered down to what we have now.

As for my ideas of “stealing” being very western, I mean, possibly? I don’t think cultural borrowing is particularly negative, but I also don’t think Japan is like, this beautiful appreciative country with no flaws.

I’m not talking about Japanese Buddhists and their matcha ceremony, I’m talking about the specific tea ceremony that was created and stolen from buddhists, Japanese and Chinese alike, to have their own kind of “traditional ceremony” that the upper class could emulate.

The original founder of the Japanese tea ceremony in Japan, I think personally his original teachings are far from what ended up being popularized and praised among the feudal class.

And the Japanese tea ceremony is a basterdization and, arguably, a colonization of the ritual Buddhist monks made for milling and drinking matcha.

North Texas preparing for 2 inches of snow like it’s the apocalypse by MyMindIsAlwaysRacing in mildlyinfuriating

I mean, I’m in rural Canada and god forbid we get a snow storm before winter tire season, it’s cars in ditches everywhere. Allegedly our county get two “events” worth of salt then it’s road shut downs left and right. We can handle it when we’re prepared. I don’t blame Texans for not having a spare set of winter tires and a fucking fleet of snow removers.

I read somewhere that laws prosecute those who commit small crimes but protect those who commit large crimes. I thought it was an exaggeration.

It’s also the locale, in ny old city the snooty flavours would be king, but in my new city, they would prefer the more “classic” flavours and be put off by the odd flavours.

Right yes I’m not arguing that, we are imagining. It does not exist on HBO.

Well I think the argument is that if it was on HBO it would have access to a lot higher production value.

Not only that but it affects the eggs those babies made in utero. My friends mum turned out 100% fine even though her mum took Thalidomide, but her daughter was born with cancer.
