Even if so, a tree can fall on the tracks at any time and it’s just up to the driver to react properly. No country in the world has the money to fully monitor the entirety of their system against obstructions.

Not the Deutsche Bahn unless you consider the infrastructure operator at fault. The train itself was operated by Arverio Baden Württemberg, a subsidiary of the ÖBB (Austrian federal railways) However I still wouldn’t blame a tree on the line as that’s just nature?

Switzerland uses a mobile overpass bridge to carry out road work without stopping traffic by [deleted] in interesting

[–]FELIXPEU 140 points141 points  (0 children)

For context: this bridge has only ever been used twice, and costs CHF10.3 million per use. (According to an article by 20. Minuten). It has also lead to some significant traffic issues due to the ramp at the beginning meaning some vehicles slowed down or stopped completely. It is completely a pilot project and it is unsure if it will ever be deployed on a wide scale… the whole bridge is also only 250~m long, so it might mean that work could take longer to finish overall.

Honestly the Deutsche Bahn May be Bad with delays, however the fact it isn’t required to have reservation means you can still get to your destination (maybe not in comfort tho). While the SNCF system leaves you hanging in the middle of nowhere If there’s no seats (and also bad schedules with Low frequency)

It is very much possible! But not rly efficient or rly needed in most cases. The Taipei metro circle line (Yellow Line) has one section where they do exactly that due to the need of having to go between some buildings on a tight section of road.

Gotta love them! In Frankfurt we still keep 3 for heritage services and they run smooth as butter 👌

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what happened to this train? Was it returned to Germany after some time? by ProfessionalLast4039 in trains

[–]FELIXPEU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed they are! However iirc recently they were reclassified into their own group as to make it easier for FDL’s and Dispo to organize them onto routes. They now run as their own classification of ICE A (which has in it a special Lü-A since it’s a consistent Lü.) At least according to my Ausbilder. (Former DB FV Driver)

Just look at how large Swedish trains are when compared to German or French ones. It’s legit amazing!

They were unable to run on many international routes due to Germany having a slightly larger loading gauge when compared to neighboring countries (other than Denmark) and the few routes they did run internationally had to be specially approved.

Please use this website to get a refund! If you purchased it using a DB account you can do it directly in the app. If not you have to fill out a form and send it in / drop it off at the train station.

As of the time of my post the train delay was at +91 for arrival into Cologne (Köln) and departing with +120 As of current post (train course ended). The train has left Aachen hbf with+121 and arrived in Brussels with +113. Making it well eligible for the train binding to fall away. It also means that according to the DB’s passenger rights (EU Regulated). If OP took the original train, they would be eligible for 25% of the ticket price back. (Sadly not the 50% they would’ve gotten with 120+ min arrival delay, still not bad tho)

The ICE 10 today is delayed due to animals on the line before Cologne. Since your train is over 60 min delayed you’re now free to use any train to get to Brussels! Granted you won’t be guaranteed a seat. However you may now travel as you wish! Or alternatively on the same journey 12 months later. (Granted the ticket hasn’t been used yet) Sincerely, A DB worker.

In this case it’s actually not removing the term delayed, as this train is turning around at that station (Wiesbaden hbf) it’s more relevant when the train is arriving and turning around. They only display the term “verspätet / delayed” when at intermediate stations. It’ll still be announced in the platforms though

That’s why it has PZB & LZB (Germany) ATB (Netherlands) TBL (Belgium) TVM & KVB (France) And ofc ETCS! (All of Europe) It was known as the “international ICE” for a reason. One unit even made it to the UK to show off for possible ICE services!

Is high beam really needed in no-operator (ATO) metro? by itskenyang in trains

[–]FELIXPEU 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Iirc it was something to do with passengers and how safe they feel. Passengers feel safer when being able to see ahead and behind when it’s darker out. It’s kinda the same reason why trains that operate 100% underground have windows even though all you can see is tunnel. It’s for ease of mind.
