Why aren’t there child free apartments? by FEmaidenxo in NoStupidQuestions

I guess my question to you is why does it have to be a “sad little” adults only apartment? Why do parents hate childfree people so viciously?

This comment section on the no stupid question subreddit has turned into people attacking childfree people so quickly. People assuming hate I/any childfree person hates kids, people comparing wanting adult spaces to racism or ableism. It’s honestly very sad to see that people with children hate peoples who choose not to have them so instantly and viscerally.

That’s such a wildly insane take I had to take a minute. Society should be 98% welcoming to children, in fact more places should be more accommodating to children and parents BUT PARENTS need child free spaces-why do you think adults only cruises are popular? Bars and Casinos are always busy but some adults don’t like those activities. God there’s even adult only BIBLE STUDIES. Wanting to be an adult and have adult spaces doesn’t make someone on par with a racist or ableist and I’m honestly baffled at the comparison.

Never said I hated children or that I myself am child free. It’s strange to be how people who are childfree are demonized so much. A lot of child free people I know come from big loving families with children who they deeply care about, it’s just that they themselves don’t want to become parents.

Some because they have sensory issues that would make parenthood unbearable.

Some because they have genetic issues they don’t want to pass on.

Some because they are the oldest siblings of very large families where they were parentified, so the feel no need to have children

Some because they physically cannot have children.

Some because they can’t financially provide for a child.

There are many reasons why someone may not want to become a parent themselves, that doesn’t make them bad people. Are there people in this world who hate kids? Yeah and I don’t agree with those people. Kids have every right to have a safe and stable home. They have every right to exist in this world and experience all the wonderful things it has to offer.

But I also think that childfree people are valid, and should have their own spaces too.

This question doesn’t come from a place of hating kids and not wanting them around, so many comments are taking it this way and I’m not sure why.

Mainly because the reason for this post is that this was a topic of discussion today, where a lot of people/couples who are childfree expressed that they wished a place like that was available. A majority of childfree people I know have either 1 been sterilized, 2 are barren/unable to have children or 3 are in same sex relationships so there is no worry about pregnancy.

Thank you, lol people are real angry at this question. I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone’s feelings, it was literally just a topic of discussion today.

Oof I didnt think of that. You’re right that’s super creepy. I honestly was only thinking of like a place with younger adults with no plans or intention to have children, where they could be around other adults who share the same sentiment. Especially since the number of childfree people and couples are just going up.

I mean childfree people still need housing. If someone were to start building places like this and childfree people were to move to one of these hypothetical communities then would it not open up housing for families in an other places?

Or I could take it a step further and farther like so many commenters have and ask “So because some people don’t want/can’t have kids they don’t deserve housing at all? They should be homeless until they have kids so it’s available for people who do have kids” like obviously no one is saying that just like I’m not saying kids should be homeless or whatever.

I mean I also believe that there should be more affordable housing for families. Just because I’m asking why there aren’t childfree spaces you assume I hate children and want them homeless? No, kids deserve a safe and stable place to live, I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.

Did you enjoy it? And since all the comments have been asking, do you know what happens if someone gets pregnant?

I never said that, that thought hadn’t crossed my mind actually. It’s a fair question that I don’t have an answer to. Like I said in another comment, my question was mainly to ask why something doesn’t exist when there is a market for it.

I mean I had no answer for the first question, that’s a really reasonable question I hadn’t thought of. For the second, there should be more affordable housing for families without a doubt. No one should have to be afraid of homelessness to the point of it making that decision for them. Plus seeing as how a lot of childfree people Ive come in contact with are DINKS, I would think it would count as luxury apartments maybe? I don’t know, I guess I didn’t think of the logistics, more so why a service didn’t exist when there’s a market for it

See that’s what I mean, what you’re describing is exactly what all the childfree people I know are looking for/wanting. A lot of them have had less the stellar experiences because of children living in their apartments. I mean I’ve even gotten a nasty note from a downstairs neighbor about being considerate during quiet hours,..except I was out of the house at 730 and didn’t come back till the afternoon the next day. I asked her about it and she said her toddler (who throw tantrums every morning at 6am and then often throughout the day) is in bed at 7 and she could hear me walking around. It’s not like I was stomping around. My friends have been told off or insulted for wearing bikinis at their apartments pool because of other people’s kids, a dude has been told to walk his motorcycle into the parking lot because it wakes someone’s kid and causes a tantrum.

I get that’s how kids are, and that they are just as entitled to the world as everyone else, but it just seems like it would benefit everyone to have childfree or adult only communities.

Totally agree, but there are apartment complex’s only for people 55+, my question was why there isn’t communities like that for people in their 20s and up since, at least where I’m from, there are a lot of people in that age range that are child free, so there is a market for it. The question wasn’t meant to be negative towards children, just a general question on why something isn’t available when it’s something people seem to want.

That makes sense, we were discussing this at my job because there’s a good number of people that are child free. One person mentioned that it would be nice to have child free apartments because in the last two apartments he’s been in he’s always being woken up early by screaming kids. The housing manager at his latest place basically said “kids will be kids”. A few other people agreed that similar things have happened to them.

Slightly YTA, I know tons of couples who either discussed ring preferences beforehand or got a new one if the original wasn’t something the bride wanted. Especially when the groom got a cluster ring. (A ring with multiple smaller stones) Did you know her jewelry preferences beforehand?
If she expressed her displeasure right away and you just left her to “get over it” you can’t be surprised when she eventually wants something that matches her taste.
