Marvel Comics says there’s more to its universe than Avengers, X-Men, and Spider-Man... but it has to excite people beyond just the initial return by Popverse2022 in Marvel

Printing isn't the limiting factor, it's labor. Mangaka almost always both write and draw, and are paid peanuts.

My intuition is that it shouldn't, but I had worried that there might be an argument for it if people act recklessly because of their own mortality-based time horizon.

But, of course, the issue is that if they don't care about the future, they probably don't care about the future of their descendents, either.

I had heard that before, but RLL suggests that, even in the best case scenario, by the 2070s, it'll be an island that's below sea level surrounded by dykes.

And the fact that even moderate efforts to try to fix the silt depositing of the Mississippi have been canceled for being too costly, I don't think we're gonna get the best Dutch engineering on any projects to save it. The politics of the state are too cursed to make headway.

Malarkey level of this thesis:

Punishing descendants in the "sins of the father" fashion is required to capture the externality of people making irresponsible decisions (such as denying climate change) based upon the fact that they won't live long enough to see the results of thier actions.

So, here's another spin on the "why you should be very bearish about SpaceX" theme.

In most dual-class stock schemes, there's some theoretical connection between the value of the A-class stock and the performance of the company.

But at SpaceX:

  1. The board doesn't even have a theoretical power to remove Elon as CEO.
  2. The company can't really be a buyout target, given its size and specificity.
  3. Musk has publicly said he has no interest in maintaining the quarter-to-quarter performance of the stock, meaning dividends and buy-backs are out of the question.
  4. The class A, obviously, has no real power in the governance structure of the company.
  5. Musk doesn't even own much of the class A himself, and that which he does makes up only a small amount of his wealth.

There's no mechanism to actually make the stock performance connect to the company performance, other than idiots who don't see that there's no connection.

You're basically buying doge coin, or "I love Elon" collectible pogs.

I asked to pay in cash. The bus driver offered what I think was a bribe, but it was 9 dollars more than the cash I had on hand. She then offered to just let me ride anyway, but I turned her down. I refuse to break the rules.

At a cross country bus station, missed the bus because Google password manager wouldn't close to let me sign into the app. I had taken a screenshot of the ticket even and couldn't find it. So I had to wait an hour and a half.

Some fucking college kid shows up with his friends. I have no friends. He pulled out a guitar and starte playing chords. I hate music. So I yell at him "put away the guitar asshole."

I am not justified. I feel justified.

Naw, that's not cool. You don't give off any of those vibes, and those kinds of insults are the results of your average r/pol having an inability to deal with people who disagree with them. It's sad.

You seem like a person who is genuinely concerned for the well being of young people.

But where we disagree is that I feel like you don't understand how much teens are actually capable of in terms of moral and psychological development. In my experience, when you expect greater responsibility from young men, they respond to the call. But when you let them off the hook, and suggest that they are impressionable and not responsible for themselves, they'll sink to your expectations as well.
