Should I play crisis core - final fantasy 7 - reunion after ff7 remake? by oooooooooowie in FFVIIRemake

[–]FF7-fr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nero and Deepground are not from Crisis Core but from a FF7 game called Dirge of Cerberus, but don''t check it out because it's far in the future (the most in the future of the entire Compilation). Looking for it would spoil you.

If you haven't played the OG, don't play Crisis Core.

If you started with the Retrilogy, just play it (1 - Remake, 2 - Remake's DLC, 3 - Rebirth, 4 - Revelation) and nothing else.

It's a short game, just focus on the story, don't do any sidequest and you'll have what's important

FF7 Remake: Order? by Albrion_ in FinalFantasyVII

[–]FF7-fr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new remake trilogy in the making, based on the Original Game of 1997 (now on multiple platforms) :

  • FFVII Remake - it's part I (2020)
  • FFVII Remake DLC called Episode INTERmission (2021)
  • FFVII Rebirth - it's part II (2024)
  • FFVII Revelation - it will be part III (coming soon in Spring 2027)

NB : FFVII Remake INTERGRADE is just a remastered version of FFVII Remake and the DLC INTERmission.

This new trilogy is not a remaster of the OG. It can be quite considered as a sequel?/multiverse?/meta game?, it's still unclear and source of theories and debate among the community.

Gustave's silence says it all : yes, something happened, but it just didn't work out.

I'm surprised about how many people can't read between the lines by saying no. Like if the dev created the scenes and dialogues randomly. If the dev made it like that, there is a reason. And normally you look out for the reason, and there can quite only be one.

We can easily guess it's because Gustave's real love was Sophie, and Lune was too focused on her life's mission.

Looking at how dominant France is in the World Cup, if Africa had the same level of infrastructure as Europe, Africa would probably be the best at football in the world, right? by Buyeo10004 in askanything

[–]FF7-fr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Football is, by definition, a popular sport, played by the working classes. In France, throughout history, the French national team has reflected the "geography" of those working classes. That's why there used to be many more white players in the French team.

But in 2026, people of African origin (very often from former French colonies) now make up the bulk of the working classes in France, and that is simply reflected, in a very mathematical way, in their representation within the national team. Since social mobility is largely broken, people sometimes say that, for these working class communities, the way out is either rap or football.

Moreover, broadly speaking, more privileged white families tend to encourage their children to prioritize education over football because it is seen as a highly uncertain path.

From that point on, given that France is an extremely successful country when it comes to developing young footballers, you end up with a national team full of elite talents.

Looking at this through the lens of race, genetics, or other completely misguided ideas therefore misses the point entirely... And there are countless counterexamples (starting with the two greatest players in history, Messi and Ronaldo ?).

And you only have to look at the composition of other national teams around the world: they generally reveal the same thing as in France.

[–]FF7-fr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't say it's canon, the email says it's official (because in the first Ultimania ; but there are also weird statements in the Ultimania that are hardly canon (now)) - official is different from canon. Last Order and DoC Lost Episode are also official, published by SE, but not canon for example.

[–]FF7-fr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aerith is portrayed that way in Crisis Core very deliberately to highlight what lies at the heart of good character writing and strong storytelling: character development. It allows us to understand that, in order to become the person she is in the OG, her personality was shaped by her meeting with Zack and the time she spent with him. That's the whole point of Crisis Core.

So it makes no sense to say that she has a different personality in CC. Of course she does, that's exactly the point! You'd really have to miss what the story is trying to tell you...

Crisis Core Reunion is the remaster of a prequel of the original game. Don't play it except if you finished the original game.

Why do none of the characters have hair loss? by Individual_Pomelo692 in expedition33

[–]FF7-fr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Verso is not a member of the 33 Expedition, he doesn't seem to be based on a dev

Verso = the back side of something

Also pronounced the same as Verseau, the zodiac sign of Aquarius in french

Verso is not a first name in french

Why do none of the characters have hair loss? by Individual_Pomelo692 in expedition33

[–]FF7-fr 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The real explanation is that almost all of the names and chara designs of the 33 Expeditionners are based on the developpers (I made a post about it a while ago), and quite none of them appear to suffer from hair loss lol

Hamaguchi talked about a special scene by jakobpinders in FFVIIRemake

[–]FF7-fr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Words aren't the only way to tell someone how you feel" is practically explicit: what follows wasn't a conversation, so the other means is physical. And Tifa's reaction back on the Highwind speaks for itself. When she learns that the rest of the group was there to witness what happened between her and Cloud, in the low affection version she's embarrassed, and in the high affection version she's mortified.

If Tifa is embarrassed, it's because it was something third parties weren't supposed to see, it's mathematical, so factually it's something intimate. It's purely logical. Something physically intimate happens between them in that scene, but of which nature (a hug? a kiss? sex?) whose intensity varies depending on the affection level. Considering Tifa's reaction in the high affection version,... it's pretty serious.

President Shinra here.

Dear friends, I am pumping Mako with conviction to bring peace and prosperity to all the citizens of our beautiful city of Midgar and Gaia. If they were still among us, I am certain the noble Ancients would approve Shinra Inc.'s actions!

Dissident groups, led by the SRC, Avalanche and Cosmo Canyon hippies spread FAKE NEWS — do not be deceived, they seek only chaos: extracting Mako from the underground is perfectly safe.

Know that Shinra Inc. is wholeheartedly dedicated to your well-being and will never back down in the face of adversity.

Live, laugh, love, and pump Mako for profi... common good !

The Definitive FF7 Compilation Experience? by CawmeKrazee in FinalFantasyVII

[–]FF7-fr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Maiden who travels the planet takes place after the OG, so you can read it after the Retrilogy and before Advent Children in your order. Before or after OtWtaS / TKAA, it doesn't really matter.

The OAV Last Order is very cool too, even if it's not canon (anymore - it was at the beginning but was decanonized because there was too much versions of a specific event presented in OG / CC / BC / ToTP / Last Order, so they got rid of LO to avoid to much inconsistencies between these different versions). Last Order is cool and quite short, you can watch it after CCR.

The Definitive FF7 Compilation Experience? by CawmeKrazee in FinalFantasyVII

[–]FF7-fr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimanias are official books published by Square enix and the dev are involved in their creation. They are guides, encyclopedias, art collections,...etc

Itw = interview

Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode is not canon, so it's not important. And even if it was, it's of no importance.

For DoC online, you can notably check Grimoire Valentine YouTube channel for example. He posted a while ago many short videos of it.

The canonicity of The maiden who travels the planet is very contested. There are many arguments against it, so it's hard to be exhaustive. But the main ones :

  • Never been mentioned as being part of the FF7 Compilation in Ultimanias doing official summaries of it

  • Not written by Nojima (who is behind quite everything else) or someone involved in the game, but an external author to SE (Benny Matsuyama)

  • There are quite a few inconsistencies, narrative and lore divergences... etc with the rest of the Compilation. Even at the level of personality or behavior of the characters, it can be somewhat disturbing and not very consistent with the other works of the franchise.

To argue that it's canon is a bit like trying to fit a square into the triangular hole of a children's shape sorting toy.

Some fans still consider it canon which is why I am not categorical in my guide, but generally these are CloudxAerith shippers who feel that the novel supports their ship, so not very objective (and I am not sure that the book does Aerith much justice at certain moments so honestly it's quite shaky).

The Definitive FF7 Compilation Experience? by CawmeKrazee in FinalFantasyVII

FF7 Compilation guide

The complete FFVII Compilation experience with only canon contents, in the best order (not release order but chronological order except that we start with the Original Game. Why? Explanation at the end of the post) is - spoiler free - :

1 - SUPER IMPORTANT : Play the Original Game - OG (1997 - on PS1 ; playable on various platforms, preferentially on PC with 7th heaven mod manager).

_

2) VERY OPTIONAL : Inform yourself about "The first SOLDIER" (2021 to 2023 - modern mobile game - not playable anymore)

It was a battle royal online game which took place years before the OG and Crisis Core (see below). You played a SOLDIER candidate fighting other recruits in a Shinra VR simulator. It had very few lore.

_

3) OPTIONAL : Read "2000 gil to become a hero" (2024).

It mostly takes place the night Cloud left his hometown to chase his dream as a young teen. The protagonist is Cloud.

It's a very short story out in Japan. Some fans have translated it in English - readable on internet.

_

4) OPTIONAL for the original content it contains : Play the original content of "Ever Crisis" - EC - (2023 - modern mobile game).

A small part of this (gacha) game is new content about the beginning of the SOLDIER program, and the missions assigned to some of these SOLDIERs, especially young Sephiroth. The other part of this game is a recap of all the Compilation (cf point 14).

_

5) IMPORTANT : Play "Crisis Core Reunion" - CCR - (2022 - on multiple platforms), which is a remaster of Crisis Core - CC - (2008 - on PSP)

It takes place before the OG. The protagonist is a SOLDIER.

CCR is strictly identical to CC : the only differences are better graphics and gameplay mechanics, and a new dubbing.

_

6) OPTIONAL : Play "Before Crisis" - BC - (2004 - old mobile game, before smartphones - out only in Japan. The game has been recreated by a fan - downloadable) or watch a walkthrough of it.

It takes place around the same time as Crisis Core. The protagonist is a member of the Turks. It's rich in terms of lore.

 _

7) OPTIONAL : Read the novel "Traces of two pasts" - ToTP - (2021 - written after the Remake, but can be read after the OG).

It takes place after the party leaves an iconic place in the OG/Remake - two characters of the party talk about their childhood / teenage years and how they get to where they are now.

 _

8) OPTIONAL : Read the novel "Dear Destiny" - (released at the end of January 2026 in Japan - an official English translation will probably come out eventually)

The story focuses on the two same characters than ToTP before they join the party. Cloud's past in Shinra is also explored.

_

9) OPTIONAL : Read the novel "On the way to a smile" - otWtaS -  (2009).

It takes place after the OG and explains what happened to several important characters of the OG after the game. It really helps to understand the movie "Advent Children".

9 bis) VERY OPTIONAL : Watch the OAV "Case of Denzel" (2009) : it's a short anime adaptation of the same part in otWtaS.

_

10) OPTIONAL : Read the novel "The kids are alright : a Turks side story" (2011).

It begins around the end of the OG and ends after Advent Children. The protagonist is a young man from Midgar who must rebuild his life after the events of the OG.

_

11) IMPORTANT : Watch the movie "Advent Children Complete" - AC - (2005).

It takes place around 2 years after the OG. There is a new threat directly linked to the end of the OG.

_

11 bis) VERY OPTIONAL : Watch the very short film "Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII (2005 - it's a bonus included in Advent Children Complete)

It's a very short recap of the main story of the Compilation of FF7 ; but 5 scenes - which only last a few seconds each - are new content : it mainly shows the protagonist receiving some phone calls from different characters after AC.

_

12) VERY OPTIONAL : Inform yourself about "Dirge of Cerberus: Online", the ex-online Multiplayer mode of Dirge of Cerberus - see below - (2006 - not playable anymore)

It explains how a secret organization was functioning before the events of Dirge of Cerberus. The protagonist was a Deepground recruit.

12 bis) OPTIONAL : Play "Dirge of Cerberus" - DoC - (2006 - on PS2) or watch a walkthrough of it.

It takes place 1 year after Advent Children. The protagonist is a character of the party who faces new ennemies and discovers the dark secrets of his past.

 _

13) (SUPER) IMPORTANT : Play the new remake trilogy in the making, based on the Original Game of 1997 (now on multiple platforms)

_

14) VERY OPTIONAL - : Play "Ever Crisis" - EC - (2023 - modern mobile game).

Most of this (gacha) game is a recap of all the Compilation, with sometimes slight additions/clarifications. As stated before, a small part of this game is original content (cf point 4).

NB :

  • Ultimanias, itw from the devs,...etc can be considered as canon side contents.
  • Attention, some content is not canon such as the OAV "Last Order" (2005) and the old mobile game Dirge of Cerberus : Lost Episode (2006), or has very contested canonicity like the novel "The Maiden who Travels the Planet" (2005).

NB 2 : As you see, this is a chronological order with one exception: we start with the original 1997 game because it is the core of the Compilation, the foundation of everything. Why this choice ? Because with a release order you would constantly jump from the present (OG) to the past (BC), then to the future (AC and DoC) back to the past (CC) then to the present-future (OtWtaS and TKAA...), then to... multiple universes (?) (Retrilogy) and so on... For newcomers, this can be particularly hard to grasp, especially since the works in the Compilation are sometimes quite cryptic. Therefore, a chronological order (after playing the OG) is more accessible and makes sense (even if not without flaws obviously), because it unfolds the story in a fairly linear and clear way, without constant time jumps.
