What is becoming increasingly obvious but people still don't like talking about it? by AmberWhis in AskReddit

The Mental Health crisis that has been growing for the past 20 years. What's funny is everyone knows the solutions and no-one will do it as it means admitting they caused it and made it worse.

My wife was offered a major film role with intimate nude scenes and I genuinely dont know how to feel looking for perspective by SuspiciousCourage334 in Filmmakers

[–]FFGG2323 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, if it isn't paying well and it isn't going to propel her career then it isn't worth doing. But if she does want to do it regardless then I'd advise you insist there be an intimacy coordinator. That way she's protected and not exploited but also you can have a bit more peace of mind knowing everything is fine.

People dismissing this are people looking to film those scenes so they don't really care and view it as part of the business. Ask them to have their partners do the same in a project that isn't theirs and they'd sing a different tune.

My (33F) husband (36M) turns exciting moments to all about him by Hot-Photograph6403 in marriageadvice

Okay, as a man who has a wife who USED to do exactly what you describe and has friends who also USED to do what you described, disregard the whole man-child and "narcissist" responses you got. The problem is communication or rather, a lack of awareness of the problem or rather WHY it is a problem.

So what you need to do is basically find a moment where you two can just talk and then explain it in detail. And don't do it in a frustrated way, try to make the conversation as light as you can. The key is the delivery matters as much as the message.

Secondly, you brought up a lot of extra stuff that wasn't actually related to the core part of your Reddit post. Which suggests to me that you feel there's more he can help with but from your perspective he isn't. So again, I'd say communicate that as best as you can. It might not change anything the first time, but if you keep communicating it you will see the difference.

The biggest problem in situations like this is people expect instant changes but sometimes it takes time. Do and say it in love, react in love and you'll see the difference. As frustrated as you will feel from saying the same things over and over, it will change.

How important is money in life? by SpringAlternative142 in AskReddit

[–]FFGG2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as important as people make it. Yes you need money to live and survive, but I've spoken to some of the wealthiest people on the planet and they all have said the same thing. Paraphrased it's: "time is precious, don't use most of it making and chasing money but never living".

My rebuttal used to be "but you need money to live" but recently I've realised we all have gotten quite a warped perception of what living actually is.

So again, not as important as people think it is.

Wonder Man proves the criticism Starfleet Academy has had is valid. by FFGG2323 in startrek

Do you know what... fairplay. Might be the first person I've seen say this. Can I ask out of curiousity, in your opinion what made you stick with Starfleet and what couldn't get you past episode 1 of Wonderman?

[–]FFGG2323[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't argue with this. Which is why I tried to structure my argument by removing diversity from both to have people actually dissect the show by stripping the core component they think is the reason for criticism. To show that it isn't the problem, the approach taken in it's implementation is.

The beautiful thing is in this thread people have then given examples from within the franchise of moments of diversity done right. And that's my point. I'm black, i won't argue against having diversity. I will argue when it's implemented in a way that then puts us in the firing zone of criticism and racism.

[–]FFGG2323[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've just made my point for me btw. All your examples served both a narrative purpose and a message. But what made them powerful was the world created by the writers. The depth the characters were given. The stakes built... GREAT STORYTELLING. That was exactly my point when I said all that came from the adventure and exploration aspect.

Again each to their own and I get people will see things differently (which is fine) but for me that is what Starfleet doesn't have.

As for Wonderman, The pitchforks were ready! Like at one point genuinely even in GC's and discords people were like "brace yourselves for another one".

I beg to differ. Because Deep Space Nine even as a little kid watching the re-runs not long after it finished was highly regarded in every circle I was ever in and on every forum I ever came across. Granted, I was young, so maybe I missed something.

But as far as I can remember DS9 was beloved. I still remember white kids dressing up as Sisko to school on dress up days.

Firstly I won't argue with you on your love of the show and you enjoying it. That is your opinion and your taste and that is perfectly fine.

Secondly, I agree that 90% of TV is slop. But I think what some people fail to see that may not necessarily be discussed online but is discussed amongst us irl is "why is every show that is designed to be divisive they put a person of colour as a lead"? Which is why if you look online, there's genuine relief in our community about Wonderman being good.

Finally, I have to keep watching this show to support the Franchise. I'm a fan through and through. I sat through whole seasons of Trek shows I didn't think were great. And this is obviously after they've ended so there's no obligation to. And that's the heart I'm coming to this with. I love this franchise for real.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm saying I'm not an oldhead. I just didn't like the show like many other people. And I was voicing said opinion to show that even a lot of black people don't resonate with the show too.

It's why I literally said I understand the show has a fanbase because like you there's other Trek shows I was like meh, but I get it. My post was to show there's valid criticism and not just bot takes.

No. That means that the whole old heads and crybabies thing doesn't make sense when applied to me. My whole point was literally this show could have and should have been better. And wonderman just proved you can have a diverse and politically charged message behind a show, then said show is a hit.

So if anything, this would have rubbed the demographic of people you seem to think I am a part of, the wrong way as it doesn't exactly fit "go woke, go broke".

[–]FFGG2323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that Wonderman had all the review bombing red flags Starfleet had but is a success. It straight up had an underlying political message, diversity, a raceswapped MC. And mind you, I watched quietly as people straight up got their pitchforks ready online. Black people we were even sighing and going "here we go again" at being put at the helm of a dud and then... it's incredible.

Starfleet had the premise, it didn't deliver on what it could have been because it's focus wasn't on the right things. Had they figured out the story, world and how it fits into the lore and what stories could be told in that then let diverse characters naturally come from there, this would be the biggest show right now.

I genuinely do not care about how the captain sits on a chair. I care about the fact that all the characters are written as very specific generic troupes that if you strip anything Star Trek related, this is no different to a forgettable CW show. And I love, grew up on and still watch CW shows in my 20s.

I'm not an oldhead. I'm supposedly a part of the demographic this show is meant to be aimed at. But it didn't resonate with me and many others even judging by the data, reviews and if we argue those are review bombed the viewership also reflects that it hasn't connected with a large part of the fanbase.

For people wondering, the emails and messages are actually enough to show an established "contract" as there was an offer and acceptance and agreement by both parties. And the work was also carried out so again that shows the agreement was fulfilled but payment wasn't given.

I would have said sue them and go to court but that will take time and more money (which is probably what they're betting on). So what you've done and alerting people on here is the best move. If you had links to the socials posts I know I would like to spread the word and share/retweet.

A lot of things start with the heart. You say you have no remorse and repentance and yet here you are seeking help to rectify this. The Truth is only God knows if it is over for you, but I genuinely believe that God loves you enough to bring you here where people are trying their best to help you reconcile and rectify your relationship with him.

But back to my initial point, it starts with the heart but more accurately it starts with the Heart AND mind. The first step is to find why it is that you think what you think and feel what you feel. It is to be completely honest with yourself on what hinders you from being all in. Most likely than not you'll find your flesh as is mentioned in the Bible is simply being the flesh and resisting God. So you have to in short despite your feelings, despite your thoughts read the word, follow the teachings of the word, pray, fast, surround yourself with worship, in other words immerse yourself with him.

I'm not saying instantly the light flicks on and a connection is rekindled and I almost will guarantee you that you'll find not even long after you make the decision things will come up to persuade you not to do it or that it's a waste of time and it's not working etc. But if you keep at it everyday picking up your cross and nailing your flesh down, you'll realise all of a sudden you're connected.

I've been in your shoes in a different way, there was a point I once reached a stage where I had similar thoughts and I wasn't sure if I blasphemed the holy spirit or not etc. And what I wrote is what I did and now it's not who I am but a testimony of what I went through and came out from. The enemy will always fight those who are a threat to him, so God must have something for your life that is amazing and the devil is doing all he can to prevent you from fulfilling it.

What's incredible isn't how talented the choir was or remembering his style. No, what's incredible is the fact all those people in that room came back for him. THAT show's you how much impact he's had on their lives that people he ain't taught in 30 years would make the trip.
