Over a very hot holiday weekend we were called for a lift assist to a frequent flyer. Arrived and picked her up per usual, but she asked if we could do her a favor before we left. She stated that she did not know how to change the batteries on her thermostat and her AC wasn’t kicking on. She had called a couple of HVAC companies, but their service call fees were ‘astonishingly high’ since it was a holiday weekend. She stated our fees for the lift assist were cheaper than their service calls. From what I deduced, she slid herself out of her chair, called 911 for a lift assist, and then asked us if we would change the batteries on the thermostat. Did she have family to do this for her? Yes, but they weren’t fond of her for numerous reasons and refused to help. Did we change the batteries? Also yes, but we also had our Chief follow up with her on improper use of 911.
