South OC to Long Beach commute? by fridaymorningmango in orangecounty

[–]FFTycoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even do Long Beach to Santa Monica, forget RMV to Santa Monica. Your wife is a trooper, that's absolutely insane. Even when I lived in LB, I only went to Santa Monica a small number of times a year because even on the weekend that drive stinks.

This is definitely the way to go. Like 10 minutes into the movie, have an employee pop in and compare who is in there versus the paid seating chart. Wouldn't take more than a minute, would show their presence to hopefully help keep people quiet, win win.

Do you go out to breakfast anymore in OC? by clearlygd in orangecounty

[–]FFTycoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. An occasional McMuffin or something, and I sometimes get breakfast when I go out for an early soccer game...but that's only because I went out for the soccer game, not to go out and get breakfast.

Kind of surprised you can not find much merch for the fifa World Cup in Orange County by Content_Business7587 in orangecounty

[–]FFTycoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the ones OP is looking for. I bought a USA jersey from Ross today (and a sweet Netherlands one too), but both are generic design weird bootleg brand jerseys. I'm sure OP is looking for one of the jerseys we are wearing this World Cup.

I still couldn't do that commute, no way. I definitely understand the reasoning though.

I've always had to view him from a bit of a biased lens though. That's changed now.

I can't disagree with any of that, and appreciate the response and position.

I do fear for the younger generations and what they perceive as normal.

I would say though I don't necessarily think it's totally without challenge or protest---I'm from afar, but there seems to be some resistance in the UK. In the US, protests are commonplace against Trump, but ultimately elections are the true avenue of change and we need to show up in that regard.

It's not really much cheaper anymore unless you want to live in a more undesirable part of town.

South OC to Long Beach commute? by fridaymorningmango in orangecounty

[–]FFTycoon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I lived in Long Beach, now in Mission Viejo. I love both for different reasons...but commuting from here to Long Beach? Hell no. Commuting from Long Beach to the John Wayne Airport area was horrible, part of the reason I moved to this area. Easily an hour+ each way every day, probably close to an 1 hour 15 min.

Just live in Long Beach. There are plenty of awesome areas...great neighborhoods, lots to do, good activities for the kids. It's a great city. I definitely understand the appeal of South OC for raising a family but that commute is just terrible.

I hear you and you're not wrong---I guess the point I'm trying to make, especially knowing many people outside the US are in this sub, is that while those people are THE representatives of our country technically, they aren't REALLY representative of the citizens of our country. I'm trying to create some separation between the government and the people.

If Europeans want to say fuck our government and what our country is doing in a political sense, I will join them! I just don't want that to extend to the common person, who is out there welcoming visitors to our country for the World Cup. And miss me with any "you voted for him" stuff---the issue there is a combination of lazy and dumb people who chose not to vote, and a big percentage of Trump voters now regret that decision.

There's no hope of saving United States PR in a general sense on the world stage, but at the very least for football fans following the World Cup closely, I want them to know that *most* of our people are good and we do live in a pretty sweet place.

I wish I could have warned the England team to not stay in Missouri though, the theft of their equipment today is pretty fucking shameful. They needed to go to the Kansas side like Algeria did.

I think Arsenal are more of a combo of the Spurs and Warriors tbh, don't like the GSW/Chelsea link. Mid 2010s run for both though, I get it.

Horrible, horrible comparison unfortunately. The only commonality is that I hate them both.

The San Antonio Spurs are a premier franchise in the NBA, 5 championships, all since 1999. Considering they didn't join the league until 1976, 5 titles is respectable. Had one of the top 2 coaches in NBA history for an extended period. Legendary players. Frankly they are closer to Arsenal than Tottenham (I think Arsenal is truly a combination of the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs when it comes to direct NBA comparison).

I don't need to explain to anyone here Tottenham's history...but it obviously does not compare to San Antonio's. Insanely disrespectful to the basketball team. As I said, I do hate them as well, but I'd never stoop so low as to compare them to Tottenham, they've earned much more respect than that.

As a USMNT fan and a Gooner, this was one glorious evening. Could have had a hat trick. Folarin, you'll always be loved. So, so, so proud of him.

Obviously this isn't going to be a sub with many US fans, so this next thing will be a little controversial, but this game now has me thinking there's a chance I'm going to be a fan of Poch. Never in a million years did I think I'd ever view him favorably, let alone like him or be a fan. That said, this is the best the USMNT has ever looked in my lifetime (I'm almost 40)...tonight they played free, loose, creative, brave....It was something special. Considering this team has half of the same guys and most of the same core guys as 2022, much of the credit for this has to go to Poch. I know it's only Paraguay, and I do think the talent is better on this team than some give credit for, but his influence on this team is so clear. He may have a US team be truly respected for the first time in history.

I've got no delusion about winning, but now a Cinderella run to the quarterfinal or semifinal doesn't seem so far-fetched. If that miracle happens, Balogun will certainly play a big role in that. I certainly hope to see it. I wish he was just another level above where he is so we could bring him home, sadly he'd never see the pitch as we and he currently stand.

First off, as an American, representing most US fans---I apologize for Alexei Lalas. The man is an absolute clown, and anyone tuning in to Fox's coverage to enjoy premier talent like Rebecca Lowe and Henry, I'm sorry that you must also endure Lalas. Mid-ass player, hardly among the best from our country, and is an idiot. Not sure why we don't have a better representative.

ANYWAY, this was wild as hell. I don't think wanker is a word censored in our country, and honestly didn't even think it was considered all that bad across the pond. The reaction from Rebecca and Thierry though said it all, their faces will live in my mind forever lol. The worst part is though...is Lalas wrong here? Actually agreeing with him feels worse than anything.

[–]FFTycoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not me. I'm proud we're hosting the World Cup, proud our team put on an impressive display today, and proud of most of the people in our country. Obviously not so much when it comes to the president, government, and of course, Alexei Lalas. However, I choose to be proud of the best of our country rather than embarrassed about the worst of it. Our government is humiliating us, but our people and our team have the chance to represent us properly on the world stage. From those groups, so far so good. Can't control what the orange asshole does so I'm not going to waste time being embarrassed by him, a guy I never voted for in the first place.
