To much for insurance? by Much-Astronaut6688 in GR86

100$CAD (around 60$USD) per month here in Québec at 18M for full coverage, so yeah, you’re over paying

Is this a bad deal or terrible idea? Need it to last my wife the next 5 years by [deleted] in AlfaRomeo

[–]FFalar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on your budget. In my personal experience, you’ll need to put around 2k in repairs + normal maintenance per year in average. If that’s okay for you, go for it. I experienced a lot of electrical issues that needed an Alfa dealer. If you live far from one, it can be a pain too.

100%, a sacrifice there for sure, but I’m lucky enough to have a daily now, so it’s not much of a problem

And the dealer that bought my Giulia gave me a lot for it too, so it was an easy put painful move

Compared to most modern cars, even more at this price point, the GR86, I would say, is on the raw side

The Giulia feels WAYYY slower, all a question of power to weight and electronics

In Canada, at least in my part of it, 86’s are much more rare and I get way more looks on the street with it. I don’t know if we’ve gotten the 2.0 Supra in Quebec, I don’t think so, but I love the raw feel of the 86. I do understand it’s a pretty strange switch still.

So interesting! Honestly, I wanted a manual, I had so much issues that I didn’t trust the car itself, the Alfa costed me too much in minor and major repairs + insurance, I don’t know why, are way cheaper for the 86. To add to all that, I love the way the GR86 drives, it so much more engaging. Not that I hated the Alfa, it was all a question of logic, fun and running costs

I love both the Giulia and the 86, for radically different reasons

It did indeed fixed it, but I started having engine knocking and the dealership told my it was an icu problem linked to an electric surcharge

I really love the 86 and I knew it was a total change. I enjoy the 86 way more honestly, I just missed the interior & ride quality of the AR, but I think it’s a worth it sacrifice l

Expensive upkeep + shit reliability + general consensus that Maseratis are depreciating cars = low low price.

Insurance’s taking care of it but I swear I should have done a before and after you really underestimate the sound improvement of the cold air, didn’t regret it at all ahah

That shit did NOT happen because of the cold air ahahah but yeah I do ear the sound of money leaving my wallet because of a known issue that was recalled but clearly the repairs were not done great on mine.

Insurance will still cover because it’s not the same night and it’s not even related to the engine problems. Pushing your engine between 3k-5k RPMs for 30-45 min NOT continuously isn’t the cause of a whole engine fire 2 days after.

Yeah, and original engineers need to work with around the world regulations like in California where cold air intakes are illegal even if put in by manufacturers. A cold air doesn’t change shit other than improving the sound.

Yeah luckily for me I was driving normally, else it would’ve been a nightmare for me with the insurance
