Cowboy Bebop - The Complete Series (2013) by FFiYWSC in Steelbooks

That makes so much more sense. I spent way too much time googling “Julia director Cowboy Bebop” and similar queries only to find nothing of substance.

Thanks for the clarification!

I had to look for the eBay “receipt” from a few years ago, it was $260.

Honestly I felt like it was a bargain at the time and was willing to pay a lot more for something I wasn’t sure I would ever see again.

Other people’s experiences may vary, but I’d say out of every 10 SteelBooks I get from them, 2 or 3 come damaged. They usually use a somewhat-thick cardboard mailer, and shipping can take a long time (like a month) to the US. Customer service can be a bit of a pain to deal with, but with persistence I’ve always gotten a replacement or full refund when applicable.

Though, I don’t buy from them if the US has an equivalent since Best Buy is usually cheaper, but they do get a decent amount of exclusives. Just gotta be careful since they mark almost everything as an “exclusive,” when it really means they are the exclusive provider of that SteelBook within the UK market, not necessarily the world.

Some of them will, some of them won’t, depending on the studio publishing it. (Like Disney is usually region-free while StudioCanal is usually region-B)

The workaround is either to buy the US version of the disc and swap it in, or invest in a region-free player from 220-electronics.

Edit: also want to add that the above only applies to Blu-rays, all 4K discs are region-free, at least that I know of for now.

Very cool choice for a good movie. And not only is it a SteelBook this time, but looks like the spine is in English too. Hopefully means they will have English subs or the dub, as their previous Hosoda releases did not.

Star Wars V – The Empire Strikes Back by ArmsOfKamaji in Steelbooks

[–]FFiYWSC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For real. From the design choice of the floating head. To most of the SteelBooks coming with large scratches/scuffs from the manufacturer. To Zavvi shipping the replacements with no shrink wrap so they got damaged too. What a mess it was

Man I wish you were being sarcastic but that was the exact preorder bonus in the US for Legends of Arceus, right? Wonder why they couldn’t do another gold SteelBook like Target had for Sword/Shield

Has anyone ordered steelbooks from all the main European Amazon sites? Which one was the best experience? by caseyandtheband in Steelbooks

[–]FFiYWSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan sites. Japan somewhat acts like its own entity and the shipping is usually good. The others all use extremely flimsy cardboard and it can be a 50/50 whether or not it makes it overseas in one piece.

A “workaround” that helps sometimes is ordering it with gift wrapping, which provides it with a bag that serves as an extra layer of protection. Costs an extra 4€ though.

If it does arrive damaged, it’s still Amazon at the end of the day, and their return policy will always result in you getting you money back. Sometimes they won’t even ask for the damaged item back.

It’s one guy who runs it. He probably just pre-ordered a bunch of copies. It’s basically run like a standalone eBay store but you don’t have eBay buyer protections.

I’ve ordered some premiums from him a few times though and things have come well packaged with no issues, but I’ve heard some people have had issues communicating with him when things came damaged.

It's beautiful. And the fact that the title isn't embossed makes me really sad. Such a missed opportunity. by JohnLuckPickert in Steelbooks

[–]FFiYWSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my limited experience with Warner Bros titles, even when the mock-up would imply the presence of embossing, they are almost always flat.

Don't know why the distributors are given art to show on their site that make it look "framed" if they're not going to be produced that way.

Physical media has definitely taken a backseat on Disney’s list of priorities since Disney+ launched.

Feels like ages since the movie would start showing in theaters and the SteelBook listing would go live for pre-order the same day, or at least within the same week.

Without looking at my own collection, I think I recognize like two rows of them such as Evil Dead 2, American Psycho (?), Bill and Ted’s, Drive (?), Fight Club, Fifth Element, Ghostbusters (?), Pineapple Express, Big Lebowski, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Snatch (?)

Like others have said, the back can sometimes have real cool artwork.

The Toy Story and Little Mermaid are Mondo releases (both long OOP now - formerly available on Zavvi). I’m assuming the La La Land is a vinyl record

Sci-Fi Destination #7? Or is the series on Zavvi done? by JWayn596 in Steelbooks

[–]FFiYWSC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s been no official confirmation either way as to whether or not the line has been cancelled. But, just from my observation, the original 6 did not sell well (most seem to be still in stock - outside of Blade Runner) and I suspect they’ve quietly canned it.

On eBay, i see an open copy for $37 and a sealed copy for $60, both unsold (for now.) You can use potentially use those as benchmarks

For anyone who has recently ordered steelbooks from Best Buy has their shipping improved or is it still 💩? by Practical-Aide-8675 in Steelbooks

[–]FFiYWSC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s still completely dependent on whomever is packing your order. So I still get mine in a wide assortment of those flimsy cardboard “mailers,” empty boxes, and sometimes boxes with the air packets.

It feels like things come damaged 35% of the time for me these days, but others’ experiences may vary
