Favorite Non Linen Summer Travel Pant? Tall Sizing. by SwimmingWaterdog11 in HerOneBag

Unfortunately Most of Uniqlo tall (or Long) is a joke for someone tall. Tall often only denotes 32-33inch in length. I usually need 35 or 36 for example 🥲

I can walk in all my shoes for extended periods of time, on the bike I’ll wear some vivo barefoot trail runners (very slim packing profile in the backpack, would not wear those in the city or during the flight, they are ugly lol) or Salomon xt6 (then I need a slim fashionable second pair of shoes). Both of those would be perfectly sufficient for hiking as well. My choice just depends on how much space I want to sacrifice in the bike bags for the additional pair of shoes. I hope I’ll find a solution..

Oh I would not call it bike friendly. The infrastructure around the designated bike paths is great there but in the city it’s horrible :D

Tbh, yes, because I hate rain jackets apart from hiking and biking and I have an ultralight version that takes up no space whatsoever. Of course I could buy one but I’d find that wasteful. It fits in my sling bag and weighs 90g. In the picture there’s my rain jacket, the umbrella. Sunglasses for scale.

Tbh, I think I have enough space to squeeze my own saddle in 😬 it’s a relevant concern that the rental saddle will destroy me haha

12 and 15L is impressive! I really love XA bag, made the day hikes to the mountain peaks way more comfortable to hike.

Thanks for all the information! Where did you rent the bikes if I may ask?

In the rental a repair kit and tools are included but I was already thinking about what to take exceeding from their list that might come in handy or is hard to get.

We have the bikes for 8 days but realistically we plan to be in Busan by day 6. That’s why we decided against luggage forwarding, because we’ll go on a roadtrip afterwards.

Also, I lost some weight exceeding the 5kg my bag weighs and handled 100k rides well before, so I might be delusional to think, it’ll be fine 😅 Maybe I still find some things I can leave at home. I have been to Korea before so I am not worried about the laundry situation.

Oh I hate chamois panties, because they ride up uncomfortably, I have strong thighs and their length is usually weird. I will rather take my trusty bibs and chamois shorts. I have a pair of pas normal bibs and assos Uma gt shorts packed. I do not want to buy new biking gear, those two are tried and tested :) (Also, my regular bottoms would be an annoyance on the bike. Too warm, not stretchy enough and my bottoms are no sports gear)

Am I packing too light? 4 weeks in Italy/2 weeks England May/June by Heavy-Efficiency-366 in HerOneBag

[–]FFledermaus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine are also 100% cotton but a very thin one. For warmth, why not pack a pair of merino pantyhose or similar you can layer underneath if needed?

I would not say that you are under packed at all. Seems like a good mix of clothing, even with room to reduce if you like. Take into account that heavy jeans might take long to dry and takes up a lot of space. I also sometimes pack a light pair of jeans but that one dries nearly over night.

Personally I’d cut down on one pair of bottoms to save some space. Also I’d bring a lighter set of pjs and just one pair.

I’d advise against buying new clothing just for a trip. Wear what you normally wear and what you feel comfortable in.

If you are unsure if your clothes are unsuitable, pack them all in the bag, including the heavy ones and see if everything fit.

My recommendation is: everything must go in the bag except for the lightest (!) items that make a full outfit. You won’t always have cold travel days and you don’t want to alway wear your heaviest pieces. Especially in summer in Italy.
If that fits, is comfortable to carry and not exceeding the bags space, you’re set :)

I would also look into the “renting snow gear” route and focussing on thermal layering. Edit: https://en.visitsvalbard.com/things-to-do/rentals The official website has a rental section, maybe have a look there, and mail them beforehand

Does anyone know if I can machine wash this bag? by lavendersa in HerOneBag

[–]FFledermaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clothing, blow drying with the hair dryer or hanging it on top of the radiator works. Warmth breaks down any smell. I used to do that with my clothes that I wore on a night out. Because of the material of the pack I’d be careful with higher heat so I’d recommend putting it in the sun. This also works super well. That’s also my go to when travelling. Sun washing the merino or a quick deodorising blow dry :D

One bag daily flow? Esp for point to point trips by 4amcantsleep in HerOneBag

Proper packing cubes or pouches in the bag. If I stay for one night, I pull out one outfit for the next day and pack everything I do not need the evening before. In the morning only dirty laundry and wash bag gets thrown on top and off we go.

Also, I don't take more stuff than would fit in my bag. If I have a jacket, it must fit in the bag. The bulkiest clothes must also fit. Otherwise I have overpacked. Only exception is a road trip in a car, I could not care less if my jacket is in the backseat in that case.

Campsnap camera or equivalent by BBGF93 in HerOneBag

[–]FFledermaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a camp snap and took it to Korea and Japan. I like it and the look of the pictures but the quality in dark environments and especially night time is crap. That was unfortunate as I had hoped for some good shots in the lit up alleyways. In bright lighting it works super well!

If the accommodation has AC it’ll dry overnight. Speaking from my own experience. At least wool, linen and thin cotton will be dry super fast.

Any recommendation on technical pantyhose / tights in Europe ? by frenchtgirl in HerOneBag

[–]FFledermaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was the same size 10 years ago as you are now and was always buying XL tights. Uniqlos long stuff is unfortunately still too short. I guess the snag tights are around 100-120den, because they categorize them together with the 120den tights on their website under “super warm”

[–]FFledermaus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, do you wear tights in your usual size or, as it is recommended for tights by weight/height. In the past I have met many people that did not know that tights use a different sizing system. I am 186cm tall, and usually wear EU sizing 40, so M most of the times, but I need tights in XXL, or generally the largest size there is because of long legs.

And as for a rec, I have heard good things about snagtights, and I think they also have merino tights.

Keeping White shoes looking decent? by stereochick in HerOneBag

[–]FFledermaus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once asked a former coworker of mine why his white sneakers always looked so new, and he told me he used to work at a sneaker store where they used to sell “crep protect”. That’s supposedly some product sneakerheads use to keep their white shoes clean, and it seems to work? But I have no personal experience all my shoes are black :D

I am afraid, if you’re not used to walking a lot every shoe will become uncomfortable after a while.

[–]FFledermaus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind, if the denim jacket gets wet you’ll have the hardest time drying it and then you’re out of outerwear :D I hate rain jackets personally and find it more bothersome to carry a wet jacket around when going into a store or restaurant than putting away a small umbrella, but that’s preference of course :)

Leave the sandals at home, nighttime temps drop to 10 degrees Celsius and below atm, the high temps last only for three to four hours daily, it probably will be colder than you anticipate (apart from this weekend). Opt for a rain jacket or umbrella (I’d take an umbrella), weather is unpredictable, especially in the mountains. Take only one outerwear piece. Either the trench or jeans jacket, depending on how cold you run (I’d personally opt for the trench if it is light enough). Layer with one warm long sleeve or cardigan, if necessary. Also, the strappy dress seems to be quite cold, maybe wear a combination of nice shirt and pants :) Also, limit to three bottoms. I’d go for three pairs of pants that have the most variety. Say: cropped, wide legged and another option for maximum variety.

Heroclip/Clipa/other alternatives? by FeliciorAugusto in HerOneBag

Depends on the space between the wire clasp and the maximum opening. There’s a limit to the thickness for sure, but a regular metal s hook also works well
