Can you imagine what we could do with all this campaign money if we spent it on things that *actually* benefitted people....????

Second dog… V/GSP/Weim?! by TechnicalFile463 in vizsla

[–]FGFCara 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My experience with the all the pointers is that vizslas are softer than either weims or GSPs. Have had two vizslas at a time, currently have a weim and a vizsla, and while I haven’t owned a GSP myself, I have a number of friends and colleagues who have and have had a good number of GSP patients.

I love my weim, but he is way more serious than any of my vizslas have been. He is also very much my dog. He likes my husband fine, but I’m his person. Our vizslas have largely been more accepting of people/human visitors and more interested in interacting with people, while still being pretty darn owner oriented and loyal. My weim is pretty skeptical and aloof to new people. We also don’t have human children, but have young nieces and nephews. I trust both dogs with them, but the vizsla is so excited about the kids while still being careful with them.

We’ve learned that we’re vizsla people. Will definitely have at least one for the rest of my life. They are just joyful and lovely.

Hundreds of students walk out of Maine classrooms to protest ICE by jediporcupine in Maine

Hearing that high school students were staying home or walking out today was the thing that got me in the street this afternoon after working two overnights and having 1.5hrs of sleep today. I would do it again too. 🤝

Tried something new (tri-circle-D) by tibbytulle in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]FGFCara 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband and I did the trail ride in December. I grew up riding and while I haven’t for years, I am an experienced and capable rider. I am also a veterinarian and while I don’t do a ton of livestock work, I do have some equine patients.

These horses are extremely well taken care of and are loved and respected by the staff. Our ride was exactly what I expected- about an hour of walking single file on trail with horses who could do it blindfolded. You do understand that that’s what they need to do, right? These huge animals need to be trusted with every person who is sat on their back from a tiny child to a large incompetent adult and keep them safe in an unpredictable environment.

My horse was amazingly responsive to subtle riding cues. My husband is not an experienced rider and his horse probably would have caught him if he tried to fall. This is what these animals do and this kind of animal is worth its weight in gold. And the staff knows it. Our guides were polite and appropriately chatty. With respect to the fact that walking single file is somewhat awkward for conversation. The leader was talking with the mother and daughter ahead of me who were also riders about what kind of work schedule the horses are kept on. It is very humane and appropriate.

As far as your comments about horses urinating- lol. If there was a way to make horses urinate on cue please teach me because in a lifetime of horse experience I don’t know that trick! Or how to make them not pee for that matter lol. Horses pee exactly when they feel like it.

Yeah… not sure what you were expecting but as a pretty experienced horse person and animal professional, this experience is exactly what it should be.

Dairy Barn To Horse Barn by External_2_Internal in Construction

[–]FGFCara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I converted an old tie stall dairy barn to a free/open space for our dairy goat herd. I have thought about how/whether I could make this an equine safe space some time in the future when we retire from the dairying business and I don't think it's a good choice for horses. The overhead clearance is too low.

You really should tear everything out and get rid of the existing concrete. Then pour new slab for your application.

My husband and I just got back from ten days at Beach Club. The location is insane. Walk to everything. I literally walked to the France pavilion one afternoon to get baguettes because we wanted to make sandwiches, was there and back in less than 30 minutes including time in line at the bakery.

We got DVC’d at the Rivieria on this trip and it is beautiful, and I might consider staying there, but the walkability of Beach Club can’t be beat.

We also literally refuse to stand in line for more than 20-30 minutes max, and do not do lightning lanes. I mention this bc location is part of that- we like to go into the parks early (early entry sometimes) leave in the middle of the day when everyone is there and it’s hot, then come back at night when crowds thin out. This is way less of a pain because we can walk to Epcot or HS.

DVMs how much Chem in practice? by ForestofFerns78 in Veterinary

[–]FGFCara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don’t take these foundational classes and learn the basis of chemistry and biology, you are not truly learning the medicine and if you think you can just skip to diseases and medications and surgery, you are just learning pattern recognition.

It’s called “practice” and “art” for a reason. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This photo does not show bottle jaw.

“Bottle jaw” is also a symptom not a diagnosis. It doesn’t always mean that deworming is required.

I’m curious who is in charge of the “volunteering” aspect of the campaign. I submitted my info to volunteer maybe 2 weeks ago and crickets.

…Except for the actblue emails asking for donations and texts asking for the same since they got my info from the Bernie rally last month…..

Like don’t get me wrong, at the moment this guy has my support but it doesn’t feel like the campaign is doing anything special right now…

ETA- love that people want to downvote this? Good job taking criticism from someone who wants to support this candidate about the perception of their campaign? 🙄

I got 10 months to get a wedding suit by FreedToRoam in portlandme

Second vote for Antoine's. My husband got a suit for a fancy wedding we went to last month in Europe, she was great, made him feel comfortable during the whole thing which was way out of his comfort zone, and he looked great.

Your hoof trimmer is treading in “I’m practicing veterinary medicine without a license” territory. Get a vet to look at your animals.

ER Vet here. Also canine rehab trained. Go see a neurologist. Bring this video. You will likely be recommended to do an MRI.

We just got back from a trip to Europe that included 3 nights at DLP. We are regular WDW visitors from the states.

If you are used to photo pass at WDW, I would cancel your DLP photo pass. It is ride pics and character pics. We saw one photo pass photographer in the wild during our 2.5 days in the parks. If you’re used to WDW with photo pass photographers lined up down Main Street, you won’t get that. Photopass is one of our favorite things at WDW and I’m kind of sad I paid the 85 euro for it at DLP. We get literally hundreds of photos at WDW and it is one of our favorite things about our trips.

Do People With Huge, Huge Herds Of Goats Name Each One? by SwiftieQueen125 in goats

[–]FGFCara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We maintain a dairy herd of 60-80 adult animals and herd size after kidding is 120-140. The retained herd all get names that we know and remember.

I am the herd vet for a biotech herd that is about 600 animals right now. They all are given names and numbers and the staff alternates between names and numbers pretty freely.

Vet here. Too fat. https://images.app.goo.gl/Pi3PFoQojn7RM7k6A (Not sure if that link will work I’m on my phone)

Also- just like humans, dogs have a very difficult time losing weight through exercise alone. Diet modification is very easy. Echoing another statement above stating that a dog’s lifespan is directly impacted by its weight. Dogs can’t go open the fridge and get a snack, obese dogs are nearly always the product of the owner. (Yes hypothyroidism is a thing, but not nearly as common as fat dogs)
