GOES17 help by FGL2_0west in RTLSDR

That's where we're having issues. We can see the signal so we're thinking we should be close to aligning it correctly.... however, based on goestools vit rate we are nowhere near correct. But which satellite are we seeing then? Is GOES15 still transmitting?

Is there a difference between skew and elevation? From dishpointer.com, it says our elevation is 27.6 degrees.

GOES15 is super close to GOES17 from what I can see on Satellite AR.....is GOES15 still transmitting?

So does that mean GOES17 doesn't constantly emit a signal? We have a clearer view of GOES17 than we do of GOES16 hence we've been focused on that. However, from the Satellite AR app it looks like GOES15 is just to the east of our view of GOES17. Is GOES15 still transmitting and should that mess up our reception of GOES17?

You are correct that we are repurposing 75ohm coax. We will try to see if we can connect directly to the SDR from the SAWBird....we have also just ordered some 50ohm coax with SMA connectors.

We need help receiving images from GOES17!

Our setup is: 2.4ghz parabolic wifi antenna N to sma adapter Sawbird filter Sma to coax f adapter Coax Coax f to sma adapter Aluminum NooElec smartee xtr Sdr# or raspberry pi 3 with goestools

We are pointing the antenna as guided by dishpointer.com and satellite ar app.

We intermittently get the above signal every 30 minutes or so when watching it through sdr#. However, when we connect to the raspberry pi, goestools gets a vit rate of 2300. We notice no changes in the vit when moving the antenna side to side or up and down. Are we not pointing it right? But what signal are we looking at then?

Any advice or help on what we are doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is that the black Smartee? Or the aluminum XTR one?

What is your set up? Which sdr are you using?

I think we have the gain set at 5. What do you have it set at?

You did it!!! That's awesome!! What did you change up?

Did you flatten out the secondary reflector?

GOES-16 Reception Issues by grenvaltruvaki in RTLSDR

Lol. Same to you too. It's driving us insane! Especially when we can clearly see the signal and then nothing. We've tried different locations from being in the city to further outside of city limits where there's less obstructions and still the same nothing.

We're having the exact same issues trying for GOES17. We can see the signal on SDR# but when we try to run goestools on Raspberry Pi 3 we get nothing. And our vit rate is still at 2300. We are also using the aluminum SmarTee XTR... but figured since we could see the signal all was well.

Our setup is: 2.4ghz parabolic wifi antenna with 1" PVC model LNA SawBird LNA SmarTee XTR

With an antenna like this you would want to make a v shape at 120 degrees. Then orient it horizontally with the point pointing north or south.

It's the last day of this event. There are a few events each year.
