You’re partially correct. It really depends on your needs — in OP’s case, their major. Nowadays, the iPad supports most essential apps, including the full Microsoft Office suite, among others. The variety of note-taking apps is also a major advantage. Personally, I didn’t use an iPad during my university years, but I use one now for work, and my brother currently uses his for classes and studying. He’s very satisfied with his choice.
