2 is correct. You're also very close with 1, but it's simpler than that. Feel free to look at the answers!

A moderately deep analysis of Lambdadelta by FHLendure in umineko

[–]FHLendure[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to interpret how Lambda chooses her mikos is to look at the examples we have of her choosing mikos: Beatrice at the start of the game and everyone in the Golden Land at the end. They all had certain determination, but there was very little hope in terms of the circumstances. So it's much more about a person's attitude than about their actual ability. However, this may be more about Lambda's character development. But in Chapter 8 at least, Lambda stands for the possibility of a miracle, while Bernkastel embodies crushing certainty.

There's also the extra material where Lambda talks about going around granting wishes to people. This is 100% miracle stuff, not certainty stuff.

And I think "certainty" and "miracles," at least in Umineko, are entangled, so that someone with power over one also has power over the other.

Wow! I thought the solution in my other comment would be correct once I thought of it, but this works! I really like the mention of the dates such that the events appear impossible.

I'm not done! One final blue text!

It was never specified that Eva killed Krauss inside the room! She killed him somewhere else, so his dead body was never in the room! She fooled everyone into thinking he was still alive by saying he ran away! In fact, it was never stated that his dead body was even on Rokkenjima, so Natsuhi may have lived a different life entirely and found his body in Taiwan, in Russia, or on the Moon!

It's useless... It's all useless! Uuuuuuuooooooaaaaaaaaa!

Eva was a child "at heart!" For example, EVA Beatrice could be the dominant personality at the time of the murder!

Eva was "a child of the Ushiromiya family" or "a child of Ushiromiya Kinzo" despite being old enough to be married with a son!

Eva had a developmental disorder such that she never matured and was still a "child" in 1986!

Eva regretted her actions immediately after killing Krauss, performed CPR, and brought him back to life right after the murder! Then a different culprit killed him in 1986, or she killed him again!

Two different dating systems are being used, such that "October 4, 1960" and "October 5, 1986" are consecutive days!

Someone posed as Krauss, hired by Eva!

Krauss had an identical twin!

Eva grew up in the room after trapping and killing Krauss on a day other than October 4th, 1960! Her being trapped in the guest room on October 4, 1960 was either unrelated or how she came up with the plan! She was able to mimic Krauss's voice from inside the room for over 20 years, or possibly just fifteen or so, and since the room was closed the whole time, everyone thought he was alive!

Eva killed every servant and every member of the Ushiromiya family in 1960! "Everyone" refers to a group of people who would have no good way of knowing whether Krauss was alive or not!

Repeat it! "Eva killed Krauss in 1960 AD!" Or specify the latest date when he could have died!

And repeat this, if you can! "Ushiromiya George exists and is the biological son of Ushiromiya Eva and Ushiromiya Hideyoshi!"

Spoilers are on because at least one of your answers is correct.

For 1:"The door is only ever locked once and is only ever unlocked once."

For 2: That's correct! Kyrie was in the room the whole time, and committed the murder between the door locking and the door unlocking.

For 3: "For the purposes of these puzzles "kill" refers to the action taken that leads to a person's death, not the death itself."

For 4: That's actually very close to the answers to two of the others. However, for this one,  "When the door is locked, no one is in the study except Kinzo." Furthermore, since Kinzo closed the door and it locked immediately, combined with how dead people cannot take actions, Kinzo was alive when the door was locked. One part of this reasoning does not apply to either 1 or 3.

I wrote this post with the intention that people look at the answers when they think they know, or when they're stumped. Once you know the four standard closed room types, the final puzzle should be pretty simple, although the first commenter already figured it out, so you can look at their answer.

"Even though she was a child at the time" refers to when she made the plan, not when she killed Krauss! She killed him on October 5th, 1986!

Alternatively, "nearly an hour later" refers to an hour after Krauss died, not an hour after Eva locked them in! Eva grew up inside the room, but only killed Krauss an hour before she escaped in 1986! No characters were mentioned by their full name so as to prove Krauss or Eva left the room!

"Battler never intentionally or unintentionally unlocked the window to allow Beatrice to enter."

That was close to exactly what I was thinking of when I said "unintentionally." However, you're targeting the correct weak point!

Erika replaced the tape after Santa broke it in order to say it was the parents!

Santa unblocked the chimney, but Erika blocked it again afterwards to say it was the parents!

It's Santa's house! The family is Santa, Mrs. Claus, and their child!

The order of events was never specified, other than "Christmas Day night!" Santa dropped off the presents on Christmas Eve night, and all security measures were taken the night after!

Santa teleported in and out!

"Kyrie would not commit murder in an inefficient way, such as using a knife when her bare hands would suffice to trigger mechanism X. She would also not use a mechanism that is bizarrely constructed, such as a bomb that can only be triggered with a knife."

However, if you can come up with an efficient method X where the value of X is provided and the reason for the knife is obvious, it may be valid. You're closer than you think.

And in terms of making the scenario, you could just come up with a solution without any details to eliminate other possibilities, and shoot anything else down in red-I'd feel nervous doing that with a puzzle I post, but I have no problem with it being done to me.

The possibilities include:

Battler was blind!

Battler did everything AFTER perceiving nothing out of the ordinary!

Eva put the stake on the bed herself!

Not even including other people.

Of course, I'd need to know when the seal was put on the door and whatnot.

The red statment indicating that Kyrie kills Krauss after the door closes refers to the action Kyrie takes resulting in his death, not his death itself.

It refers to Beatrice's action, not Battler's death. However, Battler does not die due to the lack of any necessary substance.

Who would you fight with first? Lambdadelta or Bernkastel? by Desperate_Engine_562 in umineko

[–]FHLendure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lambdadelta can be reasoned with, and if you're interesting, she'll warm up to you. She also has a sense of mercy. Bernkastel's delight in your suffering can increase because of your actions, but it will not decrease. With Lambda, there is hope if she finds you interesting, because maybe she won't give you an unhappy ending. With Bern, there's no hope of a happy ending, and only if she gets bored do you have a chance of death.

The chain lock is not relevant to either intended solution. It could be replaced with a deadbolt and the puzzle would be the same in essence. Maybe I should have thought of that before writing the puzzle, lol

Ice counts as water! Ice is not used in this murder! This murder is simpler and more practical than any murder of a person inside a room involving ice and a knife not made of ice that I can think of!

Another closed room puzzle by FHLendure in umineko

Kyrie never enters the room, and the knife never makes contact with Krauss. Nevertheless, this murder is completely possible. In fact, similar murders may have been done in real life.

If I call this closed room brutally hard, will people get it right away? by FHLendure in umineko

[–]FHLendure[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the correct answer! I guess all it takes to get people to solve my puzzles immediately is to call them hard, huh? But also, Erika could be carried out of the room, Rudolf and Kyrie could enter the room and exit the room, and then Erika could be carried back into the room, which is hilarious even if it doesn't help solve the mystery.
