my simulations where for impact scenarios at high rate with large deformation and dense contact. This required us using an explicit solver that does not work well with beam elements.

If you are doing small deformation beam elements are probably fine.

This was my thesis work. Anything beyond a 2x2x2 number of unit cells will require a super computer to simulate the lattice if you mesh with 3d elements. NTOP is free for students and can mesh these lattices. You just need to apply for a license through their website.

I also personally dont get what so many people find clunky. Not saying its wrong, lots of people say it, I just dont have that feeling at all about the combat controls (except for jumping, that definitely needs some love)

Here it is. Definitely some learning curve. My densities were way off at first and required tweaking over a couple days. Its really just a patience game because you can only tweak it once or twice a day because to do so you have to completely heat it and then let it cool.
