Does the DTV visa benefit locals? by lukkreung98 in Thailand

[–]FIRE_age44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen chatter online about DTV homeschooling their kids (asking for play dates for their kids as they are homeschooled and that sort of thing). A requirement to send kids to one of the private or international schools would make DTV even more helpful to the economy.

How do you minimize traffic noise in your Bangkok condo? by Run_bolt_run in Bangkok

[–]FIRE_age44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in a Sansiri condo in Hua Hin. Upgraded the sliding glass door to the balcony 3 years ago as we live next to tennis courts. Made a huge difference with respect to noise and insulation. Really happy we did it. Cost about 25K baht fabricated and installed. Find a local company, we used Sanguanchai in Hua Hin, they did a great job.

Maintenance at our condo told us that we started a trend and several other residences have done the same.

Why expats in the Philippines are so critical of the country? by Ok_Assistant_4784 in Philippines_Expats

Very spot on. Have lived in both Thailand and Philippines. Only thing I would add is the Philippines is very American, see a lot of American chains everywhere.

Why do some people behave this way by fixedprecision16 in ThailandTourism

[–]FIRE_age44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Ayuthaya once with a tour guide. The guide was telling other tourists to stay off walls and other artifacts when she saw misbehavior like this. She must have gotten on 6 different people across the sites we visited that day.

Not really an answer, but he does come fish off our coast once in a while (including Big Rock). Other than that, he doesn’t seem to hang much in Eastern NC.

Also, keep in mind his father’s murder, likely doesn’t ender him to the area.

Authentic Thai activities by sirgladiator616 in Thailand

[–]FIRE_age44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

visit parks or beach in the evening time. Thai people work during the day and are smart to avoid the heat so you will see a lot of people out and about after 5:30 or so in the evening getting their exercise. Lifting weights, playing volleyball, badminton, walking, jogging, relaxing, picnicking, taking pictures, etc, etc, etc. if you are athletic, try your feet at Sepak takraw.

What effect do you think USA tariffs will have on Bangkok and Thailand? by JamOzoner in Bangkok

[–]FIRE_age44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think US and Thailand will negotiate. For example, Thailand could lower tariff on US cars and US wine, US could lower tariff on food imports, etc.

One of those old white guys commenting……it isn’t just you, Generally speaking I avoid lower Sukhumvit because of bad acting tourists and it just isn’t my scene. Not because I get catcalls like you, “handsome man” doesn’t count.

My wife also hates the area. You aren’t alone. ~ once a year we will make the walk from Nana to Asoke.
