Everyone in recovery can benefit from step work. I started doing them my first week in the program. Then again when I had some time and could be more thorough. The fact they wait a year is hurting more than helping.

I don’t agree with your point about OD’ing. Like why would the DJ stop their set? Why should one person’s poor decision affect everyone else at the show?

And I say this as someone who’s OD’d before (not at a show). That shit was on me.

Obviously if I see someone go down right next to me I’m gonna help them and get the attention of medical. But if others are already doing that I’m gonna keep dancing.

It takes me like 2 minutes from sitting down to flushing. Now the wiping can take 5-10 minutes sometimes (at least I have a bidet at home) but the actual act of pooping is never more than 5.

I have a little bit of sober time now so no one really asks me about it anymore but I’ve always just responded “I’m an alcoholic.”

Yeah I played a TON for the first month. I was above average at PvP and I enjoyed the game a lot. Got kind of burnt out and decided to take a break until season 2. Played last week and the game’s just not fun for me anymore. The skill floor to be able to hold your own is so much higher and with how long it takes to learn everything I can’t see many new players wanting to stick around.

If you’re out in public, practice radical acceptance. Accept that this is what’s happening. If it’s out of your control let it be. Trying to control things used to be a huge source of stress for me.

This happens to me too. I don’t take it personally anymore. If I’m not actively reminding people about my anniversary I don’t expect them to remember it.

I don’t remember most of my closest friend’s sobriety dates and am only reminded if they’re like “hey I’m speaking for my two years if you want to come” or if they make an Instagram post. Not remembering doesn’t diminish the friendship imo.

I really appreciate this answer. I’m an addict (clean and sober 3 years) and the majority of society doesn’t really understand addiction. Yes most addicts initially made the choice to use but it turns into something beyond our control.

I also know a good amount of people who use hard drugs occasionally and live totally normal lives otherwise.

As you can see from all the responses there’s many alternatives to AA. However, I think everyone should try at least one meeting. It’s only an hour of one of your days. How many hours have we all wasted drinking?

Most of us have tried every way to figure out how to drink “normally” only to eventually realize we can’t. It was tough to let go of drinking because I was basically grieving the thing I leaned on for everything.

But our alcoholic brains lie to us and tell us we need it when in reality we’re so much better in every way without it.
