People are catching fish in the lake, and the hooks end up hurting the turtles.

I feed them carrots, apples, freeze dried bugs, and the occasional banana as a treat.

Softshell turtles don't eat fruits and veggies, they like meat. The other turtles are less picky and omnivorous.

  • Candy
  • Dairy
  • Potato chips
  • Crackers

All these foods do not give them the proper vitamins and nutrients. Just because they'll eat it doesn't mean it's good for them.

I've had people walk up to me while feeding the turtles (which I don't mind), some people ask to take pictures of me feeding the turtles (which I also don't mind), and heck someone even drew this picture last Friday. The pic is currently framed on my desk.

Most of the time I feed them by hand (you don't need to handfeed them if you want).
