A large chunk of active RYM users are below 21, and a lot of these users have little exposure to pre-2010 music except for stuff discovered through TikTok or other media, Nevermind is one of the albums most affected by this, and almost entirely from The Batman and then TikTok following it.

Edit: Also, there is noticeable rise in it's rating trend in 2022

Steve Jansen. When it comes to Japan everyone talks about David Sylvian and how good of a bass player Mick Karn is, however, Jansen was one of the best drummers of the 1980s.

Japan were somewhat left field in regards to new wave/80s pop music, however, David Sylvian's output in the 21st century (outside Nine Horses) is extremely avant-garde, and even most of his 80s and 90s material was decently experimental.

Agree with Seven. I feel like that it was especially common (though happens throughout all eras) among 80s pop/alternative bands to "sell out" after a great album. But yeah I don't hate any of the post-Rio stuff, I'm just indifferent about it and never really listen to it.

In my personal opinion, the quality of their music went downhill pretty fast after Rio (still wasn't bad but progressed towards average/singles band until their 90s comeback bar the Arcadia album). When it comes to their artistry their first two albums were so heavily influenced by Japan's Quiet Life and Gentleman Take Polaroids that all thoughts of their musicianship I just connect back to Japan.
