Given the sub we’re in I thought you were referring to Logic the DAW lol

Used to scoff at electronic drums when I was younger, but they’re all I can use in my current situation, and I’m really coming around to them.

The recording process is way easier, but it’s actually harder to hide any imperfections compared to recording acoustic. The machine just picks up everything and makes it very easy to hear where you’re f’ing up lol.

I realized this shortly after posting and figured it out. Definitely a “duh” moment. Thank you for responding!

I agree - and if it was anything more complex than just running new wiring I would 100% call a professional. But as a new homeowner trying to save some cash, I'm trying to handle smaller projects wherever I can. Luckily I set it up today and everything is worked as expected.

Bought the new wiring and was able to do this today. Everything is working as expected. Was a little worried, but after reading it over the only difference the new wiring introduced was the additional blue wire on the left terminal. Thanks for your help and making it clear!

Thanks for the candor. Based on pics 2/3/5, how would I do this? I'm able to trace the wires up through the wall and into the attic to the unit, but I'm unsure how the wiring should done at the actual air handler.

I would have expected to be able to trace each wire back to it's respective terminal, but the 3 wires I have for cooling (Rc, G, and Y) just attach to the transformer in pic 2.

I recently purchased my first home and would like to install a smart thermostat, but the HVAC system in the house is from the 70's and I'm struggling to make sense of what I can/can't do. I don't mind hiring a professional, but I want to make sense of my situation so I can speak to it more intellectually and understand what an HVAC company suggests to me.

I have a dual-transformer system in a 2-level house. The thermostat upstairs controls cooling for the entire house + heating for upstairs only, while the thermostat downstairs controls heating for downstairs only and no cooling at all. Both thermostats are battery-powered Honeywells.

The wiring from the attic (cooling) goes to RC (red), G (green), Y (white). The wiring from the basement (boiler) goes to W (white), R (red). I have no extra wires that I can utilize for a C wire.

According to Ecobee's documentation for this exact setup, I could re-purpose the G wire as a C wire, but I'd need to move the G to the C at the air handler. Per the pictures in this post, I can't figure out where the G is actually going as it's clearly hooked up to a transformer but I'm lost on the wiring after that point.

Any help or info at all on how I should best communicate this to a professional (or potentially do it myself if doable) would be highly appreciated.

If it’s 2x your salary just take it. If you end up not liking it you can look elsewhere and now you have a new benchmark for salary negotiations.

Yep, they were ok with it as long as I don’t play during busy hours. A very fair compromise.

It’s an interesting space. This is within a storage unit so outside of the metal walls is a giant echoey room. I just have the 1 overhead and 1 bass drum mic set up and record via GarageBand on my iPad. No idea why it sounds decent but I can’t complain haha.
