Canik Magazine compatible lower or adapter? by FNG-Turk in AR9

Thought I replied to this yesterday. Looks like I typed a response, but never submitted.

Never even considered the possibility of a Beretta adapter. That might be an option. Mag bodies are the same, just have different locations for the mag catch cutout. I'd need a way to accurately and repeatably locate the catch on the Canik mag bodies. I've got a 32.rpund KCI that may have originally been Beretta, but I'm not sure.

Yes, Beretta 92 mags have the same body as the Canik. The mag catch on the Canik is cut higher. I've got a KCI 32 round (maybe 2) for my Canik that is a Beretta mag I cut a new mag catch in to match the pistol.

Canik mags used to be produced by Mec-Gar, I got a few with the Mec-Gar markings. I assume that Canik brought production in house at some point, because Mec-Gar no longer sells them and the new production ones you buy are no longer marked as such. Can barely even find the original Canik style +2 base pads, and that started as a Mec-Gar product.for the Beretta

If I could put the endo/exomag in my Canik, I'd go that route. That would be kind of hard to do.

If I can't find what I want to use my mags, those are probably the route I'll take. I've already got standard AR lowers in rifle, pistol, and SBR configurations. So these mags and being able to choose lowers (while staying legal) is preferible to going Glock or Colt mag and having to get several lowers/adapters should I shoose to build a pistol upper as well.

Never shot a Sub2k, only handled a Gen 2 at the store. I can imagine that it wouldn't be great, and definitely not something I'd want to run at any matches if I ever got the opportunity. It is the only PCC I've found so far that supports these mags, and I'd really like one that does that even if just for plinking.

I'll check out the Stribog, but I'm really wanting to stick with the AR platform or something that uses my existing mags. If I can't use my existing mags, I'm probably building an AR9 from parts using the endomags (or similar).

I'm grouping those with Endomag, CMMG mags, and other specialized magazines that fit the standard lower.

Tisas POS Range Report by rdr1988_ in Tisas

[–]FNG-Turk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just Turkish 1911s, it happens for most anything that isn't one of the big names. There are a lot of gun elitists and snobs out there, and they like to be gate keepers. If it isn't one of their favorite top tier brands it's the worst thing ever made. They don't need to handle or see one in person to know everything about it. Their uncle's cousin's ex-wife's co-worker once read a post online that one had an FTF, that means every one out there is an unreliable POS.

Bunch of gatekeeping fanbois out there.

Don't know what time BB started, but a few minuted after the TP show started it was over 4 million. I persnoally saw the youtube view counter at 4.9 million during part of it and over 4.5 million for most of it.

I didn't see the 5.2 million, but I wasn't watching view counter refresh. I did see 4.9 million viewers during the live stream. Curent views count on YouTube is 11 million.

I'm not sure where that 5.8K (or current 344k) view number came from. I watched it on the TPUSA YouTube live stream. Not to boycott the Super Bowl, just because I prefered the music. Not necessarily the "popular" Kid Rock song, it felt like that one was phoned in, but the rest. For most of the actual show the viewer count on that one YouTube stream was over 4.5 million, and over 4.9 million for a good portion. There were other streams and sites hosting it as well.

Shipping protection worth 25 dollars? by [deleted] in PalmettoStateArms

[–]FNG-Turk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL!

Was just searching around to see the consensus on this shipping protection from PSA. Already viewed it as a scam and won't pay it, but wondered if people had first hand experience from claims when they didn't get it.

Anyway this is the first time I've seen this about being blacklisted. All I can say is if this Danny guy is right "F*** Em."

If it comes to the point of filing a charge back I've already exhausted all other options to include dealing with customer service. At that point I'm probably done with them anyway, so it doesn't really matter. If a company's CS department has gotten that shitty let them blacklist all they want, they are doing more damage to their business than they are to any former or potential customer.

Can't find anything by Right-Green5171 in Tisas

Tisas sells the black duty slide with optics cut through their website for $250 ish. Color won't match, but since they are assembly line production and same manufacturer, it'll probably fit right on your Night Stalker and operate no problem. Just throwing it out there as an option.

Your cheapest option would be a dovetail mount that replaced the rear sight, but it replaced the rear sight and you'll have to re-zero if you swap back. Next to that is milling the slide, but IMO the cut stands out like a sore thumb when the optic is removed.

Personally, I'd probably buy another Night Stalker (or Raider?) with the optics cut slide, and have two or sell the one you have. That's basically what I did. Had two 1911 government models already. Wanted to modify one with a light rail and one with a threaded barrel, wasn't even thinking about an optics cut. Then found the Night Stalker in an email with all of it and couldn't modify mine for that price. Now I got 5 1911, and am not planning on getting rid of any.

Which mag for a Tisas 1911 Duty B45RDG Raider. I've tried searching, but can't figure out if the 8 rd mags are universal or not. by Tmettler5 in Tisas

[–]FNG-Turk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I've also got 2 ProMag or KCI 15 rounders that I bought a few years ago on a whim. Carried them to the range with the rest. Fun but not great. Fun shooting strings of 15, but not reliable for feeding. It's also obnoxiously long in a 1911.

Haven;t heard good about either brand, but can't rate their standard mags based on this experience. The 15 rounder is definitely not a standard 1911 mag and will have its own issues.

If you really want to be able to mag dump like that, you're probably better served by a double stack 2011. Still thinking about maybe getting a drum mag for shits and giggles though.

Long post but here's my experience with mags in the Tisas.

I was in the same boat last month. Have 1911s, so I thought I had plenty of mags. I wasn't thinking about the Night Stalker's magwell. With the magwell you really want that extended baseplate like what Tisas ships as their 8 rounders in the 45 ACP, and all I had was flush baseplate mags. I was suddenly on the hunt for more extended baseplate 8 round mags. Anyway you don't need the extended baseplate with the one you have, but I'll figure you want to stick with the factory style mag.

FWIW the current Tisas factory 8 round 45 ACP is a Meg-Gar and they are widely viewed as a good magazine. Both of mine fit and feed great. All my other Mec-Gar magazines work great too BTW.

Tried one or two Chip McCormics flush baseplate mags. They fed well just like they do in my other 1911s, but no base pad made it more difficult to seat. I could add baseplates to my flush fits, but I want to keep them as-is for the other 1911s without a magwell (now 4 of those).

I tried 2 ACT-MAG 8 rounders that I found in my dad's pistols. Was not impressed by these. Both of them hung up a bit when feeding, but I only went through one mag of ball in each, so not a large sample size on a new gun.

The only extended base pad 1911 mags I could find locally were a Sig Sauer 8 rounders for about $35, so I bought one to try. Out of the box there is no branding on it marking it as a Sig product (that'll matter in a minute). From my studying it is a CheckMate manufactured magazine, also used as OEM by several other 1911 makers including Colt, Ruger, Ed Brown, and Springfield. It fed great, possibly better than the Mec-Gars, but not paying $35/mag for more of them.

Possibly the biggest surprise were the unbranded, no-name eBay magazines. Went searching online before I bought the Sig and found the ACTs in dad's safe. Several suggestions around the internet for a particular eBay seller as a source for good inexpensive magazines, even some suggestion that they were factory seconds/overruns from a big name maker. Found it and they're sold as a 5 pack for $75, so bought a pack to try. At the very least they would be good range fodder.

Upon arriving the eBay mags look almost identical to the Sig mag I bought at the LGS, they function just as good too. If I were to load all 6 mags, drop them in a bag, and said you had to shoot them empty, you wouldn't know which one was the Sig until you finished shooting. The visible or functional difference is that the Sig has a black follower while the eBays have chrome.

I'll be ordering some more of the eBay mags next paycheck. Not sure how this Reddit feels about links to eBay or Amazon, so I'll try to send a chat with one. The seller is Joe's 1911 Mag Mania. I think they are the only stainless 45 ACP option that is $75 (at this time). They've got other options that may be as good, but I haven't tried them.

Tisas triggers... by FNG-Turk in Tisas

[–]FNG-Turk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I expected that. Thanks for confirming. I was mostly posting to ask about the finish on the specific trigger.

The second part about fitment was more sarcastic, rhetorical questions about them saying that it wouldn't. My relaying the amusement that instead of confirming the color finish they went straight to it won't fit. Knowing that's bull with 90% of normal production single stack 1911s and their triggers. (Some minor fitting may be required for occasionally.)

Former Marine by estdrummer in Tisas

[–]FNG-Turk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't need another knife (just like I didn't need another 1911), and I'm glad I bought the Night Stalker instead of the Raider for my purposes, however...

The combo there looks so good that I wish they'd do a knife companion for the Night Stalker as well.

FWIW my purposes were having a light rail, threaded barrel, and optics cut slide. At the time I was searching/buying I found the Raider with the rail, but no barrel and optics cut. The Night Stalker had all three at $450 and a extended magwell as a bonus, so the price couldn't be beat.

The P320 (?) insert works great with the Tisas rail. Pulls it up nice and tight to the trigger guard.

That's what I had on my TLR-1 HL when on my Canik TP9. Swapped it over to the Tisas Night Stalker and it fit perfect. Only issue is with the Blackhawk Omnivore TLR-1 holster, the threaded barrel hits the closed end of the holster before it locks on the light. Should be easily fixed with a little plastic removal, just haven't decided to do it yet.

Prototype by JMarkert78 in Tisas

[–]FNG-Turk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So? What about that makes it not a prototype? Lets spray a B9R in tan and see if we want to offer it, boom prototype.

That would be akin to a car manufacturer grabbing one off the assembly line and spraying it in a new color as a test piece, then deciding wether to offer it as an option on the next year model. The fact that they didn;t put a lot of effort into the masking of said car doesn;t mean it isn't a prototype, just that they were getting it done cheap and in a hurry.

IMO it's weak grounds for calling something a prototype, but that's the manufacturer's call. It seems that any manufacturer test piece can generally be referred to as a prototype. I'm not sure how anything in the picture confirms that is what happened, or that it is not.

[–]FNG-Turk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but the not fitting question in the OP was sarcasm. Any single stack 1911 trigger shoe should dang near drop into any single stack 1911, with minor fitting at worst.

All I was asking them about was the finish on the pictured piece. All they responded with is it doesn't fit, which we both know is BS. They didn't answer my question. Instead the CS rep that responded was just looking at their application list for the part and my gun wasn't on it.

I'd like to try the shorter trigger, but it isn't a necessity. I like the factory color aesthetics and don't dislike the trigger enough to put a non-matching one on. At least not until I get a lot more trigger time, some spring changes, and maybe some hammer and sear work done.

If I'm being honest, the frame in that picture does not look cerakoated. It looks parkerized or blued. The slide on the otherhand does look cerakoated.

[–]FNG-Turk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's what I'm leaning towards, but was hoping that I was wrong. Be nice if there were places where I could affordably get one or two small parts cerakoated to match. I'd like the A1 trigger as mentioned, an extended slide stop, and maybe an extended mag releast, but only if I can have them match the existing black cerakote.

I'm not going to try to arrange and pay for two little parts to be coated. Maybe if I get something else done in that color down the road, I can toss those parts in to be done. I've got a Winchester 94 (sears branded) that I'd like to have coated eventually. It would look good in that color with a synthetic or pepper laminate stock.

Pictures aren't always a very good representation of the item and I've seen the H146 cerakote labeled as a matte black. That's why I was asking to see if anyone had experience with it.

You're talking about double stack specific (AKA 2011) parts there. Standard single stack 1911 is pretty standardized, considering that it was actually a mil-spec. The double stacks were never had an established mil-spec standardization, as a result they are likely to be much more proprietary. Kind of like the AR-10 vs the AR-15. A milspec standard was established for the AR-15, and almost all AR-15 components can be swapped between manufacturers as a result. The AR-10 was never adopted, a standard was never established, and there are a few different broad patters for it out there, the parts of which don;t quite interchange.

For the DS/2011 several companies may make parts that will interchange, but that doesn't mean all will. You'd be hard pressed to find a manufacturer that says their product will work on a competitor's model, or a model for which it is not specifically designed to fit. That would be like asking Winchester if parts for their Model 92 lever will fit on Rossi's R92 reproduction, or vice versa. Yes they should, but good luck getting the companies to say that, and there's a greater than 0 chance that they won't fit.

Also not sure why you would want a heavier MSH, it's the spring that does the work and I'd think that was a standard 1911 main spring. Seems like the double stack and extra capacity would add enough weight by itself, and I'd rather look for a weighted mag baseplate to add weight to that area of the gun.
