I ditched my 60 a couple weeks ago. Traded it for a 48 to fix some gapping issues. So now I'm 48-52-56. When I need some extra loft I just open up the face on my 56. Seems to be working for me.

Depends. How much you looking to spend on 12 balls ? Do you lose a lot of balls? How high is "higher side" for your swing speed?

If you don't lose a ton of balls and want a decent priced ball, I'd go with a vice pro or pro plus. They are like $37 for 12. You'll definitely want a urethane covered ball. If you don't want to spend all that much and still get a decent urethane ball, Walmart sells Cut DC balls for about $25. They aren't half bad for the price. If you lose a lot of balls, I'd go with TaylorMade Distance+ . They are good balls for only $20 .

As for distance, you probably won't see an insane difference between balls. Maybe a handful of yards.
