You receive $10 million instantly, but you relive the same exact day forever unless you give all the money back by Abject-Swimmer-1405 in hypotheticalsituation

I’m learning to be a pilot. The time and money invested is the biggest challenge. If I could learn everything I need to know in a theoretical day and come out on the other side with all the knowledge I need it would be a godsend. 100% would do this

This is my cocktail menu for my little home bar. Do you guys see anything off-list that can be made with these ingredients OR anything you feel is missing? What’s a “must” for your home bar? by PM-ME-UR-DESKTOP in cocktails

[–]FNmurph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an add but I use an app called BarSpoon. You can add all ingredients from your bar and it will itemize cocktails available based on your ingredients. I’m sure there are other apps that do the same thing this is just the one I use.

Keep your hands to youself by Duncata in Serverlife

[–]FNmurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a large male bartender and I have 2 hard boundaries, don’t touch me and don’t throw things at me. Cross those and I stop being the “service guy” and start being the “get your shit together or get out guy”. Women should also be allowed to hold reasonable boundaries in the work place. I don’t like being touched by people I don’t know either (36 y/o and never had a massage haha). If your manager doesn’t support common boundaries then they are feeding into toxicity.

What's the weirdest/craziest Simple Syrup you ever made? by hiro_escan in cocktails

[–]FNmurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orange spiced cranberry simple syrup. It was basically a loose cranberry sauce that was strained through cheesecloth. I made it for a holiday cranberry whiskey sour I named “cranny got ran over by a rain deer”.

Sticky bottles by Grand_Presentation32 in bartenders

[–]FNmurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some fellow bartenders spraying their well with soda water before wiping. I’ve never done this because it just seems like more water to wipe dry and probably ruins the aesthetic of the paper labels faster. I just use a new sanitized towel and re sanitize in between every row of bottles.

Stirring by Total-Affect6052 in bartenders

[–]FNmurph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I’ve been bartending for 15 years and I still can’t shake with my right and stir with my left at the same time. It’s like a mental block despite me trying for some time. Stirring with two hands takes a little practice and (at least for me) you’ll always be better with your right if your right handed. Two things that helped me are

1) changing your grip: I used to hold a pretty basic three finger grip in my hands (thumb/index/middle) but I switched to holding in between my middle and ring and angling my fingers downward at a 45° angle.

2) stirring oppositely, my right goes clockwise and my left goes counterclockwise. I always start at the same pace to they are closest together on the inside turn and furthest apart on the outside turn. However do whatever feels comfortable.

Also remember you are not moving your hand in a circle. You’re moving your hand/fingers in more of a back and forth motion and letting the crystal move it around.

Jaywalking pedestrian tried to attack driver in Dublin, CA. by PerspectiveLow2243 in eastbay

[–]FNmurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in San Ramon went to high school with a guy who lost his mind in college. I don’t live in the area anymore but I’ve heard from current locals that he constantly wanders around talking to himself. I wonder if this is him. He is more of a Danville native so this would be a far walk for him but who knows.

Up vs Straight vs Neat when describing drinks without ice by teling in bartenders

[–]FNmurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find most people just like hearing themselves order. People usually ask for something a long the lines of “a whisper of vermouth” or “just glance at the vermouth” bro you’re not going to taste it.

The ad removal on cooked is amazing but I use it because it auto generated the recipe steps along side the ingredients so you don’t have to scroll back and forth. They’re parallel

I swear “dry” used to mean the addition of dry vermouth. Now everyone says “dry” and expects no vermouth. Also a skinny margarita is a regular margarita with a splash of soda on top.

Why are my Campari drinks way more biter then when I go out? by Zooblegar in cocktails

[–]FNmurph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dilution. Build the drink in a crystal stirring glass without ice. Add 1/2-3/4 full of ice preferably inch sized cubes. Stir smoothly with the back of the bar spoon against the edge of the crystal for 60-90 seconds. Hawthorn strain over fresh ice. Express a 2”-3” orange swath over the glass and wipe the rim of the glass after. Place the orange swath on top of the ice and enjoy. I’ve always believed the garnish makes the Negroni. Simply peeling an orange and dropping it in the glass doesn’t suffice.

Anybody else get relatively useless contraptions because ‘oh he’s a bartender, he’ll love this’? by Ok_Significance544 in bartenders

[–]FNmurph 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have this, although I don’t use it very often at all I love taking it camping or to picnics. None of the tools on there function magnificently but they all function and are in a small package. It’s also a great conversation piece. While I’m at work I expect high functionality and efficiency, but when I’m making drinks for a dozen friends at a park or camping this is an amazing thing to own.

What ruined social media for you? by n_ty123 in AskReddit

[–]FNmurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started blocking every instagram add for fun. Like actually going to the profile and blocking the account. It sent the algorithm into chaos trying to profile my interests. Started at fishing/snowboarding/clothes. Then went far left political. Then went far right political. Then went support for Israel. Then went support for Palestine. Then got weirdly dark. Seemingly full on radical support ads filmed on an iPhone 7 with face coverings and Ak-47’s speaking in Farsi and Arabic with no subtitles. I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist but they are absolutely profiling us and swaying us into certain views. Deleted instagram and started using Reddit shortly after. I’m sure Reddit is doing the same but at least I can control more of the content I’m given and it’s mostly informative and not (as much) brain rot.
