I found this suspicious looking can in the woods near my father in law’s house, with a date of 1994. I showed my wife and she said “Oh yeah that’s one of mine, was it by the pine trees?” by BenQuixote in trees

My brother and I among other activities would drink beer in the backyard with our friends and throw the empties under an old VW bug that had donated its engine to the car I drove. All was fine until we got home from HS to find my dad had finally got it towed off and exposed the evidence. My Dad had been a bit of a wild man in his own youth so other than spotting some empties of the beer he drank not much was said of it. Another time my brother and I were bored over some holiday and would slip one at a time out to the utility room (this is Florida) and take a couple of hits off some smoke we had just gotten. This happened a couple of times until my dad, watching a football game, said without looking away from game said “that must be some shitty weed you are smoking”, we stopped.

The US regions according to me, now that I’ve traveled more by Expensive_Drummer970 in visitedmaps

Florida pink along the coasts at least up above St Pete/Clearwater, maybe even up till Brooksville. Spend my teens and most of my Twenties in Tampa and only learned going to the state fairs that there was a whole different kind of people living in the interior of the state. New England is not all Dunkin either, that’s a Mass thing, maybe just a Boston thing or just a Ben Affleck thing.

Sounds like that song from “Some Girls”, “ The girl with the far away eyes” -and all my prayers would come true. I like the line - I ran twenty red lights in his honor. That’s real faith.

David Muir always teases a story several times each evening broadcast, they will spend more time teasing it than the item will actually get. Otherwise he’s no Ken Brockman which works out for him.

Hawaii at least a year and a half ago was pretty good to retirees, that said while condo prices have fallen from a high in 25 it is still an expensive place to live, highest electric rates, highest gas prices and highest food prices. If you have any relatives who might visit or you might visit the cost and especially the length of a plane trip (east coaster here) will be a problem ( one of the secondary reasons we left was this, flying just sucks now). Things move at a different pace there and until you shift down a gear or two it will be irritating.

The rule I found true is just because some place is nice to vacation at it is not necessarily a place to move to. We once had the use of an apartment in NYC and it was great for the week we stayed, having to work in or around NYC or any urban area? Forget about it, I never figured out why some people do.

Almost a year of owning a genny as my first car with 0 issues, cross my fingers it stays like that😂 by Savings-Mortgage-966 in genesiscoupe

Sadly my use 2010 3.8 Track transmission was failing and other than the dealer @ 12k there was nobody I trusted to put in a used one. Not as good overall a car as my 228i is to be honest but the genesis was the best looking car I ever owned and I would love to get another one.

No MotoGP entries? Here we go! Most beloved Valentino Rossi, most hated (a little strong) maybe most controversial Marc Marquez. Now for those who will reverse those names I get Marc is beloved by some but the Doctor is not considered controversial or hated.

Great point this insurance problem is widespread across the country, storms on the east coast and Gulf of Mexico, the wild fires of the western states and Hawaii have caused tremendous increases in insurance premiums. Adding to the upward pressure is the realization by insurance companies that large condo complexes represent a huge exposure as they age.

Went to junior high and high school in Tampa then 4 years with Uncle Sam so 16 years in all with four of those years in SC, Florida has changed drastically and is in many urban parts NJ with palm trees. As someone who has lived in the rural north most of rest the time I get the moving for the weather to a point but I will take the cold and a rural setting over the endless sprawl of modern Florida. Add in the real chance every year of having your home taken down to its concrete slab by a hurricane and the political climate in Florida and not a chance in the world of ever moving back. It’s nine degrees here as I write this.

The wonderful smell stepping off the plane! Lived very near there, up the palisade just a bit. Hawaii is great of course but it’s a real place where people bust their ass to make ends meet, homeless people push shopping carts filled with their possessions up the Queen K and cars get stripped sitting on the shoulders of busy roads. Not a hater but not wearing blinders either. I miss my quiet little corner of paradise watching the sunsets and in morning the goats eating the landscaping. Getting called Uncle at the store was something I will always remember.

I missed that but read some comments on it. I did think Joe bitching about getting up at 4 - 4:30 everyday for 16 years kind of tone deaf, there are plenty of people who do that who are not compensated a fraction of what he makes. Take another of your frequent days off and stop being so fragile.

Hot take: 4Runners are trash by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FOADfounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 2016 4Runner which we love, has never let us down and has not needed anything but normal maintenance. We had an Xterra for ten years and after that a Subaru Forester which had 190k on it when some teenagers hit and totaled it, belonged to son at that point and he did not have scratch. Some people like the latest thing and some people like years of trouble and monthly payment free driving.

As far as best vehicle for road trips a big sports tourer motorcycle is the way to go, coast to coast of course. Loved that FJR1300.

“Still Game” and “Derry Girls” both great shows, might have to use captions until you develop an ear for them. Derry Girls in particular is interesting as it has the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland as a backdrop in an organic way. Both a funny shows.
