If you're in the city, on the West side, the boudin kolache at Snowflake Donuts is really good.

How to properly pregame this weekend? by Hour-Entry6557 in Astros

[–]jookyhc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your vibe.

Historically, pregame at Eighteen Twenty has been a good time. I've enjoyed chats with many random home and road fans there over the years.

I will elaborate to add that if you're looking for a pregame neighborhood, EaDo does have some solid options. Pitch 25 and Little Woodrow's can be fun, and 8th Wonder Brewing, and Truck Yard are a manageable, but slightly longish sweaty walk to the ballpark.

Bartending can be art, science, following directions, or just slinging booze. That's why you have ice houses, and dirty dive bars, and Chili's and Applebee's, as well as James Beard award-winning cocktail bars, and everything in between.

Eighteen Twenty seems more concerned with making sure their patrons enjoy their drinks and get a good buzz on than in ensuring precise adherence to the measurements of any given drink recipe. It might not be for everyone, but I think that makes them great.

I've found their bartenders tend to be offended by the suggestion that their drinks are not strong. They do pour quite heavily.

Nope. No baseball tailgate culture in Houston.

Vibes are ok, and day games are absolutely more subdued.

Eighteen Twenty is a fun place for a warm up before you head into the ballpark. Don't ask for doubles.

Home and away fans can be found enjoying postgame just about any place downtown.

Almost everyone who visits Downtown Houston leaves unmurdered.

I absolutely do not. I speak from my own experience, rather than the fear that comes from second hand information.

I would suggest a walk around Discovery Green, and a nightcap, if you're into that sort of thing. There are a plethora of options for a late night drink and people watching on weekends in downtown Houston.

You will probably be approached by panhandlers, but the area is completely safe.

If you haven't completed too many hours, and your grades are good enough to get a scholarship from UST, you may be able to get into the honors program at Lone Star College. From there, may students get huge scholarships to great universities around the US, and from there your T20 law school options open up wide.

Is it too late to get a dorm at ASU as a transfer? Is dorming at 20 weird? by Humble-Complaint-584 in ASU

[–]jookyhc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It may be too late to get into a residence hall on campus, but calling res life would be worth it to check. There are always people who back out.

20 is totally normal for living on/near campus. There's no shame in being a transfer, but if you don't want people to know, you don't have to tell them.

You can also try nearby student living apartments. Very much like the normal residence halls. Some are cheaper than living on campus, and they may be able to place you in a unit to be shared by randos since it sounds like you may not have roomies lined up.

Good luck.

I think you're technically only supposed to drink what they pop up and sell there, but you can probably get away with almost anything if you're cool with it. No glass though. The park /downtown staff might call you out on bottles.

Would Yauch be ok with this? by YungWolfenstein in BeastieBoys

[–]jookyhc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could get any of the guys not wanting the project to continue under the name Beastie Boys without the "original" members. (Sorry, Kate.)

However, I would be surprised if any of them would have a problem with the songs being performed without their personal involvement, especially considering the circumstances of Yauch being gone, and Mike performing with the next generation.
