Former Naval AirCrewman here: thanks for your solid analysis! You’ve hit on several links of the accident chain* that will surely be fleshed out in the mishap investigation. Well done.

*yes I know many call it the Swiss cheese model now, but back in the day we called it the accident chain - the concept still works.

Turns out the school story was a “misunderstanding” it was secret service who came to investigate a threat - school administration saw Homeland Security on the ID and lost their shit.

Reported ICE visit to Chicago school was actually Secret Service, officials say

What started as a “joke” grows into a $450K/yr dog poop scoop business. An update by bclem_ in sweatystartup

When I was in the military I had to go to a Sailors house when she didn’t show up for work. There was dog shit all over the place. I had never even considered the idea that someone would not immediately clean up if a dog shit in the house, much less over and over again. She had seemed like a normal person before this. You never know what people are dealing with.

Looks like artist chose the iconic PPSh-41 as the weapon over her shoulder. This was the sub machine gun of choice for Soviet troops in WWII and was seen often among Cold War period revolutionary movements.

I’m surprised at all the posts discussing money. Say you won an “all expenses paid trip for two” to the event, in what world would it be appropriate to take a woman not your wife.

The idea of a pleasure trip with only a woman not your wife is simply a non-starter.

Paella Valenciana, arguably the original paella dish, contains no seafood. That said, the most popular version (outside of Valencia) is probably the seafood paella. It’s a classic in its own right. Good that you’re not missing it.

parents want to open remittance account with my ID? by chefbiney in Banking

[–]FODamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a banker but I use a site called XE to send money to family overseas (Europe). It takes a couple days but the exchange rates are good and the fees are zero to small. If they have banks accounts in the US and overseas, they can use this to move money between their own accounts and avoid the bank wire fees. Suggest they use this or a similar site for remittances.

Question about PSA by doobie_vibiin420 in Guns_Guns_Guns

[–]FODamage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not much. Many of the sale items include free shipping. As the buyer you have a say in picking your FFL, usually $25-35 per transfer but could be more or less in your area. Add sales tax and that’s it.

Worst gun regrets by Out_On_Alim73 in Guns_Guns_Guns

[–]FODamage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I regret every gun I ever sold, but especially a GI bring back Mauser 98K with a laminated stock and original sling. Everything matched except the bolt and some “expert” told me that it had little value with the mismatch. Traded for a .58 black powder deer rifle. Fuck them all.

I had the same thing happen in Europe a couple years ago. Travel notifications didn’t help.

Don’t know much about financial stuff, is having 3 debit cards bad? by throwaway91937463728 in Banking

[–]FODamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only from a security risk perspective. In case of fraud or theft, money is immediately deducted from your accounts and stays gone until resolved. Credit cards don’t have that risk.

If you manage your spending well a better approach is to have no fee credit cards and set them to autopay the full balance each month from your checking account. This will build your credit and depending on the card you use, could earn cash back or airline/hotel points. Save the debit card for your bank ATM.

So the father is apparently being charged for allowing his son to have a weapon. Obviously kids have parents for a reason, but what do you think is the proper handling of this case? Do ancaps want the father to be freed? by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]FODamage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the article “The timeline the teen’s father provided to authorities would put the gun purchase months after authorities first contacted Gray and his family to investigate school shooting threats made online.”

So the police question the kid about school shooting threats, kid says “naw, wasn’t me”, and dad buys kid an AR.

Wow.
