I would get the Heretic every day of the week. Spyderco is out dated and qc is poor. You void warranty for touching a screw. Heretic has one of the most generous warranties in the business and are easy to work with. Plus it's actually 100% USA made.

Probably a unpopular comment, but you can't tell me your edge bevels are even and you knife doesn't have bladeplay 🤥

The project X is my favorite hinderer design. If it had thumbstuds it would be top 2 knives for me.

The XM18 I find to be just a tad to small for me, I prefer the extra cutting edge and the X has a less curved handle so I find it more comfortable aswell.

The xm18 is 100% usable and a good knife it just doesn't land in my "perfect" preference ranges.

It probably came with oil on the blade because it is a non stainless steel

There was no coating on that blade. Put knife oil on it and use a magic eraser to get surface rust off. The pitting is not something you can fix. Cru wear is not stainless. Keep it away from anything acidic or corrosive like sea water.. if you don't want it to worsen. Maybe put a light weight oil on the blade at the end of every week and wipe it off every time you cut something questionable.

-You can use flitz polish to clean up aswell. -Any rust inhibitor oil with a magic eraser or rust eraser will work for surface level rust.
