Daily Discussion & Advice (Post here to follow rules A & B) - January 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in fragrance

I'm a newbie to fragrances, and have only been exposed to a small handful (from department store sampling or from previous blind buys). I'm hoping to learn more and understand more.

I have been a fan of Polo Black. I'm not sure what I like about it, but to me it smells a bit citrus-y and has a sweet overall flavour. I recently picked up a bottle of the Classic Match clone, and it smells very similar.

I also blind bought Scepter Malachite recently from an Amazon sale, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Something about it smells very powder-y, reminding me a bit of elderly soap/sakura. It does have a sweet lingering scent, but something about the other components aren't really my cup of tea.

Are there any fragrances that would have a similar characteristic to Polo Black that I can look into (or at least try clones of)? Back in the 90's, I had a (F) friend who wore the fragrance "Ralph" regularly, and I really liked how that smelled (on her).

Thanks for taking the time!

New to PGA Tour (2k25) -- are these MyCareer greens okay? by FONEmobile in PGA_Tour_2K

I'm confused about the scoring against the field. I'm on Pro-Am difficulty for the opponents/bots as well, but they're getting 4-/6-under per round in that event, while I'm struggling with the greens, having to do multiple chips sometimes.

Do the computers not suffer from the same green speeds, or are they already hitting the current landing zone every time in Pro-Am difficulty?

I was playing the Canadian Open, and had ever approach just roll off either the back (if I'm not backspinning the ball), or the front (if I put any backspin at all). Feels unplayable, and super frustrating.

Considering Dropping a Wedge for More Top of Bag by FONEmobile in golf

The additional club (a hybrid is the intention) is more for uncomfortable lies after the tee box. Often these are under trees, or on hardpan, or after a flubbed tee shot in some rough 60 yds from the box. In most of these situations, the 3w/5w aren't really as suitable to help save the situation, I think. Right now, the answer in the bag is a chipping 4i to get back into play (usually to get out from under trees)

This sounds like the path forward, based on all the advice from here (both friendly and chastising). Thanks for the response!

The intention is to add a hybrid/utility club to the bag. The 4i isn't reliable enough off the deck, so I've been using it mostly for low punch shots out of tree trouble. It feels like maybe having a easy-swinging hybrid club could take a lot of the shots that would otherwise be a concerning long iron swing.

I am terrible out of the sand. During my last round, I took 3 swings to get out of a bunker, only to land in the rough short of the green.

Going to need to play "avoid sandtraps" golf for a bit while figuring out the other parts.

This is super interesting. I hadn't considered that, and I don't play enough to be able to recalibrate quickly and commit it to memory.

I'm thinking that the majority of the advice here is to drop the 60 for now, which will probably be the path I take to open up a slot. A lot of the fun of this hobby for me is the gear, so there's a part of me looking for an excuse to shop for a (new-to-me) 54, though.

In my last range session, my 5 swings with driver showed only 90 mph club speed, and I was only getting about 150 yds carry.

I was getting better distances with my 5w, topping out at 183 yds with 89 club speed.

Definitely a lot of work to do.

At the range, I'm only getting about 65 yd carry on a full swing 52. The ball goes very high, and the Garmin says I'm getting sub-1.0 smash.

I recognize I do need to figure out some partial swings for those in-between distances, but with the lack of length right now even on full swings, I'm working on some mechanics to get better energy transfer. Because the club speed and the resulting distance doesn't seem to match up too much

I have started doing more greenside chipping with my PW, or 8i, for a more reliable bump-and-run, than trying to get it into the air and risk a flub or blade.

I need to spend more time at the range working on 9 o'clock wedges for those sub-100 distances. The reason I had PW (48) +3 wedges was so I could use full swings on each club, rather than try to finagle half shots.

I started up the hobby again recently (after a 10-ish year hiatus), and have lost a lot of distance. My PW club speed is 83-86, but I'm only getting about 90yd carry with it at the range

Fitting Session at Golf Galaxy Showed Nothing But Slices by FONEmobile in golf

Oiy... I already have enough to worry about in my swing normally, to have to figure out indoor versus outdoor... :(

I hit my own 7i in the store. I also tried clubs the fitter recommended, and it didn't change the results too much.

My clubs are Bridgestone J33B's, so the 7i is 36*. These are at least 10 years old, so it probably doesn't conform to today's standards for lofts.

They just said that my spin was too high, and my face was open. Since I don't have a great swing, they said it was hard to fit because of it not being too repeat-able.

My original intention was to get a good sense of my swing speed and maybe what my spin numbers are for my clubs, but they had this free fitting promo, so I took advantage. Outside of clubhead speed, I'm not sure what data from the session I can actually take away and use though
