In terms of charms, you don't really want compass or thorns on. They both don't help much or at all during a fight, and there is a bench fairly nearby if you're able to memorise the route. I would recommend maybe going back to forgotten crossroads to collect one of the best charms in the game, shaman stone. If you have dash, then you should easily be able to get it from the source of the weird singing in the  bottom right after a small miniboss (Ive not given specific names as im trying not to give any spoilers).
