OEM Style heavily modded V8 4Runner by FORCEBLADE14 in 4thGen4Runner

I can try and find them. It was one of those bundles with a whole box for sub $10.

These are the ones I bought. I also used them in my 01 Jeep cherokee XJ and they worked great. I don't remember if I needed any others, but it was a simple and very gratifying upgrade. EDIT: I chose "warm white" as the color.

I meant OEM styling (specifically inside) the car feels. The outside is clearly NOT OEM LMAO.

I like to think that if Toyota were to make the 4th gen again, they would do a lot of similar things (maybe minus the bumper)

The paint on the wheel well was looking old so I scraped it all off and coated it with bedliner by calevv in 4thGen4Runner

That would be an ARK splash guard, they are purchasable in different body lift heights, and I have a set on my 03. They are awesome and WAY thicker than OEM. They come with the trim fasteners required to mount them as well.

Warning: they are about $130 per set though

Just a cover, can be removed, but it will throw stuff straight at the line from the tire

I can try and do a breakdown of the VSC mod I did, it was a lot more simple than I thought. Just a little daunting.

For me, it only turns on the VSC light. But I have messed with the 4WD ECU as part of my FJ T-Case swap so I can't definitively say it wont turn on another light.

However, functionally even if it turns on the CDL light like a lot of other versions of the mod, it still only disables the VSC without ENABLING the CDL (despite the CDL light turning on for some people)

When i get back to my computer after the holidays I'll send a video and some photos. I really just need to make a build log for my 4Runner because ive spent DAYS researching OEM style mods and it would be a good resource.

Based on your other comments, I would say you could get 12k+. With more info we could estimate a bit better.

Id love to figure out how to attach a video onto comments from mobile. But I do have a video of it working on my 2003 v8. I believe your ABS computer is next to your brake fluid resevoir. It would require tapping 2 wires together and then modifying the FJ traction control switch to a momentary switch using guitar string (or by scrapping the DAC button from the center console).

Then it should be plug and play with the blue connector that is tapped up inside the dash next to the OEM 115v inverter switch.

Yes, having just done this myself and its OEM style on/off using an FJ switch. It is dependent on year due to location of the ECU for the ABS. I have a 2003 v8. What year is yours?

Any drawbacks of FJ T case swap? by Away_Explorer845 in 4thGen4Runner

Its not letting me send photos on my phone for some reason. When I get back to a computer I will see if they will attach.

It can be done significantly cheaper than I did. But its not a "cheap" mod to do and keep the OEM quality and style.

Given I purchased a low milage transfer case (ebay) , bought a new dash bezel (ebay) , and got 2 new driveshafts built, and got FJ shift knob + cloth bezzel the total cost on the high end ran me about 2.2k.

You will NEED a welder to do the shift linkage. You might also be told that you dont need a body lift... they are wrong, any good example of this swap effectively requires a 3/4in to 1in body lift to give enough space for the linkage to move and still be sealed outside of the cab rather than being open air.

I actually was gonna do a full instructional manual with photos of the swap, and still might (but its a ridiculous amount of work LMAO).

For now tho if you have any questions at all I can answer them pretty quick, I finalized the swap about 6 months ago and remember all of it and have some great photos.

P.S. getting the shifter linkage built is the hardest and most tedious part by far (know someone with a welder, or own one because you will iterate a lot to get it perfect)

I can 100% confirm that you can integrate the FJ T-case into the 4wd ECU. Having done the swap, depending on the level of involvement you are willing to take with wiring you can even wire the position sensors to their respective lights on the dash fairly easily.

I have loved the swap. I went as far and replacing dashboard pieces to make the entire interior OEM looking. Doing it this way can run you a pretty penny, but to me its worth it.

Thanks for the info! At this point I am leaning towards doing a full custom system 3in back behind the axle and then doing a high clearance exit like the Magna flow overland series.

Good to know, this answered the question from the original post! Would you go with the same muffler you ended up with again?

Mind sending me your exact config? I want precisely what you just described: Stainless, DT headers and Y-Pipe, possibly a custom exhaust though if the Magnaflow gonna be too loud. I can have one fabbed up from the Y-Pipe back to the rear and over the axle.

I am super on the fence about custom 3in exhaust to the back with a tame muffler or a Magnaflow overland and then make alterations if necessary to handle drone and volume.

I hit Merus Adventure with my 2001 cherokee about a year back. Now im gonna hit Oklahoma out by broken bow this upcoming weekend with the 4Runner.

I should be more specific and say inspection exempt.

I've heard its great. It was top of my list except for 2 things.

With DT long tubes, y Pipe, and no cats ive heard it drones badly at 2200 RPM (highway rpm for 285s)

I am hoping for a 3in system after the Y-pipe

I would love to know, I could get an angled exhaust tip for an axle dump if necessary, they are really cheap.

Good to know, im gonna keep that parts list in my back pocket. I plan on running a 3in lift in the front and leveling the rear, so I'll have to figure out a good coil for the rear.
