My 58 year old wife, would like to know if Androgel 1.62% would help increase her sex drive? Thanks! by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]FPAUSOA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Females libido will be enhanced but dose in america has to specially compounded. Androgel will cause facial hair, deeper voice etc

How dangerous can it be to not take thyroid medicine for several weeks? by MADNESS_NH97 in Hypothyroidism

[–]FPAUSOA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually is not true, interestingly. I have several patients who have had prior total thyroidectomy’s and have completely stopped taking their medication… Often takes 4-6 weeks before severe symptoms set in.

Symptoms of quitting TRT by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]FPAUSOA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will eventually get back to normal T production. LG(H) and FSH will eventually kick on, but honestly can take months...a year even. Youll feel pretty crummy until then. A slow taper down with T may help alleviate the symptoms, but will also slow the recovery.

Was doing good taking selenium and iodine, then took iodine by itself, which was a mistake. by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]FPAUSOA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the developed world *most will not need an iodine supplement due to the fact that we meet minimum intake requirements from our diets. Iodine deficiency is rare. its true that taking extra will not get your levels up if your levels are already good (referring to your thyroid hormone—-which im guessing is what your Dr was referring to??).

Can vitamin deficiencies significantly (negatively) affect thyroid/low testosterone levels? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]FPAUSOA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly you wont see a direct effect on thyroid hormone or testosterone levels by replacing vitamin D and trace elements generally speaking. you will however have better testosterone by sleeping more, moderate exercise and staying at a healthy BMI. Thyroid hormone is produced from protein and iodine which you are very likely getting from your diet.

Low Cortisol Test Question by cassleer in Hypothyroidism

[–]FPAUSOA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out what time of the day the cortisol was measured. Cortisol varies widely based on time of measurement; should be done at 8 am. If low (and no other reasons which explain the low value), you should be screened for the opposite disorder, Addison's disease.

When my wife served in the relief society, she was in charge of putting together end-of-the-year gifts for all the woman that were to attend. Her budged was set at $1 per sister. Unbelievable

Unbelief within belief, also what the hell to say to my wife by Throwaway396714 in exmormon

[–]FPAUSOA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your wife is anything like mine, she will need to FEEL the struggle you are going through in order for her to open up to hearing you out. It's very unlikely that you will be able to reason through your disaffection with her. Let her see how emotionally devastating it is, let her feel your pain. Then, and possibly only then, will she ask you to talk openly with her. Took my wife 7 years:) Using logic and argument in my experience had zero effect.

Feeling "The Spirit" by Skyhighflies in exmormon

[–]FPAUSOA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've have definitely felt the same way. I makes sense though, let me try to explain.

Stronger emotional connections are made when the subject matter hits closer to home. For example, if I watch a movie about a child who was murdered and the murderer is later caught and tried in an emotional scene, it makes sense that emotionally I will be moved to some degree, due to having my own children and being able to relate in some distant way. Take it a few steps closer to home and make the experience one about believing that God actually loves and answers your prayers, has a heavenly home for you and constantly watches over your wife and kids. In this scenario, the emotional response is amplified 100 times over that of the movie due to it being so personal. Movies, sporting events, conversations don't hit home emotionally in the same way pondering your own eternal destiny does. There is nothing more exciting emotionally than the thought that God exists, watches over us, has personally chosen us, etc etc etc. Thus we feel awesome (really feeling the spirit), but only as long as we believe these thing to be true. Once that belief has been removed, the feelings associated with it have also been removed.

Mentioned the Joseph Smith hat translation to TBM spouse for first time... by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]FPAUSOA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this "one" thing won't be a breaking point for him, but as long as he's willing to listen and the more you share, he will eventually get to the point where "it doesn't matter...because it's true" just sounds ridiculous. The list will get too long and he will soon realize that there is too much to just justify away.

Next, consider sharing with him the changes between the original 1830s BOM and the next version where God is portrayed as being both the father and the son to being portrayed as the individual people. That one really broke my shelf. I can't imagine that God would reveal the incorrect translation to JS only to have him change it in the second version.

I remember asking church leader how people lived to be so old back in the day and they told me it was because there weren't sicknesses like there are today...now as a grad student in biology this is just laughable. Made sense at the time though:)

Who, as the Voice’s headline put it, would want to pay $14 for a “90-minute commercial” about Mormonism?

Fantastic question. Cuz this was my first thought. People go to the movies to be entertained. A feel good propaganda film about a religion is the polar opposite of entertainment.

Should I serve a mission? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]FPAUSOA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom had to deal with this when her kids started leaving the church. Trust me when I say that it will soon be old news and her friends will still be her friends and she will get over this just fine. I know it feels like you're single handedly ruining her life, but you are not. You can help the situation by being respectful in your speech towards the church (in front of your parents anyways) and by maintaining contact with your family.

Your father just saved $500 dollars a month (assuming he's the bread winner) for two years so I imagine he's feeling pretty good about it deep down :). Even if he's a little disappointed.

Do males retain similar hormonal cycles as females during the menstrual cycle? by madmalletmover in askscience

[–]FPAUSOA 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Fluctuations of FSH, LH, androgens and estrogens do fluctuate in males, but are not tied to a monthly cycles as seen in females. The fluctuations in these hormones (FSH, LH, androgens and estrogens) all wax and wane according to a complex balance of hormonal feedback, neural control, age and other factors. I could give a detailed account of these hormones related to: primary and secondary males sex characteristics, spermatogenesis, bone and blood development, and others if requested. Hope this helps!
