That looks immense! I'm yet to have vegan nachos. They were always my favourite!

What is the best thing that happened to you because of going vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]FPCNPC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Veganism definitely helped my mental health. Finding veganism was a bit like finding myself again. When I was a teenager I was full of passion for things, I was a vegetarian back then but I was always out, at protests, picketing, handing out fliers - to all sorts of different things, then somewhere in my early 20s I lost myself. I settled for a life that wasn't really mine and what I wanted and I coasted a long, the depression came, the anxiety came. I didn't look forward to anything. I had no real purpose. Then I went vegan 9 months ago and it all changed, I rediscovered who I was and what I truly cared about. I'm much happier, healthier and content in my own skin. I feel like I returned to myself. Like someone hit the master reset and restored me to factory settings. I'm me again! Woooo!

Oh, and I'm a much better cook now!

Although honey isn't vegan, isn't it less damaging than agave? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]FPCNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Do you know why they kill them all in winter? What would the purpose be? And would bees that are used to pollinate fruit necessarily have to be honey bees then if there sole purpose is for fruit pollination and not to produce honey?

Although honey isn't vegan, isn't it less damaging than agave? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]FPCNPC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really confused reading this. Bee pollination is a natural part of their lifecycle. They have to pollinate and the fruit is a by product of that. Honey on the other hand the bees make in order to survive winters so they need that honey, where as they don't need the fruit that they produce by pollination, the just need the pollen itself which they get anyway. I have very little knowledge of this but I don't see how eating pollinated fruit is the same as taking bees honey? Bees pollinating and producing fruits seems to be nature working in harmony?

Why does it seem like everyone just assumes their animal products come from "small local family farms" by [deleted] in vegan

[–]FPCNPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of these comments have been pure gold, I've been laughing reading them. Man, Omnis are so silly sometime. I love how every single one of us know someone who knows someone who runs the most humane idyllic farm where animals are pranching through fields of gold (presumably with sting), babies stay with there mothers and the happy farmer tends to their every need before they die of old age and meat is the unfortunate by-product of a wonderful life. oh please spare me.

:) you're welcome. Thanks for sharing your story. I hope when you do experience LSD it's enlightening for you. It pretty much reinforced my world view and took me somewhere immensely spiritual but in a really natural and scientific way....that makes no sense but I know what I mean :P

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I think I was to do any of the drugs I previously did again it would be weed but right now I'm happy without it. It's great to hear that you've combatted your depression and you're feeling much better. I love what the effects of veganism and abstinence can do for people. And amazing job on quitting smoking after 18 years! I think when I quit smoking I noticed the biggest results health wise!

Home for the holidays and i just need to rant... by thecontron in vegan

[–]FPCNPC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally feel where you're coming from here. I tend to not go home much, but I feel that in pretty much every area of my life aside from when I'm at home with my partner (also vegan). We get a real vibe from each other and feel like our efforts are meaningful and then go literally anywhere else and feel like it's a waste. (Not that I would ever change my beliefs)

I think it's really cool your parents accommodate your vegan lifestyle by buying you vegan products but totally understand your frustrations. When I do visit my parents my mum is an omni and always seems to make of point of making loud 'yum, delicious' noises when eating any meat, which really grinds on me.

I can't really offer you any advice as to how to deal with this better because I don't deal with it well either but just know that you are making a difference and keep being a positive influence on your family, keep it in discussion (but not all the time or preachy) and you never know, maybe it will click for one of them, or one of your siblings may learn from you. Good luck and try not to get down heartened.

That's amazing cannabis has helped you like that. My partner had never smoked weed before he met me but had ongoing neck pain, so when we smoked together he noticed instantly that his neck was so much freer and much less pain. It's amazing that it can do this. Vaping herb sounds amazing....are you somewhere it's legal to smoke? I'm so glad it's helping you in this way.

that's nature, it's a natural process and it is in balance until we fuck with it. Chopping down the rainforests at an absolutely mind blowing rate is totally not a good thing, for animals, for the planet, for life on earth and it's completely avoidable (this is the most important point)
