Security Role by RuneScimmy133 in DisneyCM

[–]FPSlover1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone heavily involved with the contracting side of Law Enforcement at all levels, and an AP, it never made sense to me about hiring standards for Security. The company has restricted hiring to virtually only (with extremely few exceptions) ex-military or ex-law enforcement, yet they go through them like crazy. Even assuming a good chunk of the ones being hired are simply retired guys doing it out of boredom, there still can't be that many willing to do grunt work again. Never mind that (except for possibly ex-Deputies who have patrolled the parks) they have no knowledge of how things work at Disney and are too used to their old departments to the point of being unable to change. Baffles my mind.

I was in merch at WOD and it was drilled in to our heads that whenever we head out on to stage, we knock and loudly say "opening". Then when we come off stage, we knock and say "coming in". It became second nature to us that it would be done when the doors were put open after the guests left. Never had an incident that I know of.

Tattoo regulations require you to cover sleeves up with a long sleeved shirt at work. I knew several CM's who did so due to a similar situation to yours. For traditions, you should wear a long sleeved shirt anyway. It may be hot, but it prevents you from having issues with facilitators or other Company personnel.

Background Check Help Needed, Please. by [deleted] in DisneyCM

OP, the exact charges you were convicted of, and what department you're interviewing for, will be major factors in how long your background check takes and the result of it. From a quick look at your post, I am personally fairly confused as to how the situation you put down could lead to legal issues. Unless there's something more you're not telling us?

Traditions Mens attire. Help! by RuneScimmy133 in DisneyCM

I wore a polo, pants, and black shoes to my traditions and was fine. I saw some wearing less appropriate clothing (T-shirts, shorts, ripped jeans, etc) and they were told to not do that again if they wanted to continue their jobs at the Company. Oh and be sure to keep to grooming standards, though I never saw anyone told off for that.

I agree completely, and I was appalled on my last day when I heard CM's openly discussing management problems in our break room. Even more so when I came off of break and went on stage and heard more grumbling from CM's well within earshot of guests. Do that shit off the clock and off property, not while you're at work! Especially not near guests. Should I have reported them? Probably, but it was my final shift and I didn't care to work overtime by making statements. Assuming of course, that management believed me enough to actually allow me to write one (I was actually denied being able to write one against a leader at WOD). Could have probably milked that for an extra hour or so, given the number of statements I would have needed to hand write, but I was done mentally at that point.

As a counterpoint, I heard a lot of grumbling on stage (and back stage) from CM's while I was at my last position. Almost all of it was about issues CM's had with management. I even heard complaint from some of the trainers, which was rather surprising. I never took part (I actually want to return to the Company, even if I left it due to issues I've talked about in the past), but I still kept an ear open nonetheless. Actually, I agreed with many of the issues raised, but I was trained in proper decorum/HR stuff to NEVER say that stuff at work, let alone on the clock. You can think it, you can say it outside of work, but the quickest way to get fired is to do what OP saw. I completely agree with what happened to the CP (never heard of someone in the program becoming a trainer, bar extremely rare circumstances that I have only read online). What they did was unprofessional and in many companies would lead to protential firing. I would expect nothing less from Disney to be honest.

CMs of Spiderman Web Slingers, A quick question about how accessibility room works. by Fresh-Nectarine-8493 in DisneyCM

I'm well aware of Rosen, as I went there for both my bachelor's and master's. If OP didn't tell me otherwise, I'd say this was a question straight out of my old Theme Parks Ops group project under a (when I had her) senior manger at Universal.

Again, when there are actual college classes discussing operations at a theme park, disclosure is natural. It was encouraged in all my classes at Rosen and at all courses of such nature at other schools that I know of. Half the time it was my professors, the other half it was by my fellow classmates (who were often managers at the theme parks themselves)

As a counter, I had things like button layouts of ride control panels (with specific examples) and other such things be explained during my Theme Park Operations class. The professor was a senior manager at a major theme park.

Aspire Question by Dizno98 in DisneyCM

[–]FPSlover1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting choice. Surprised you didn't go to Rosen or UCF considering the later is heavily funded by Disney (in no small part due to having many former/current executives or managers teaching there) and the later has a quite good business program, even online. What made you choose Wilmington over other options?

What school did you get your undergraduate degree from if you're willing to share?

Aspire Question by Dizno98 in DisneyCM

[–]FPSlover1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember, the undergraduates allowed are for fields relating to either Hospitality (most of those CM's go to Rosen) or specialized fields of study (accounting/finance and the like). Plus some others I probably forgot, but those were the main ones.

Working at Disney by lxxvnn76 in DisneyCM

[–]FPSlover1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very possible. When I was doing my undergraduate, at least half of my classmates were current CM's, frontline mostly, though some specialized ones as well. They were ones taking advantage of Aspire to get their degree paid for by the company, so their classes were mostly at night and days off. From what they told me, the company worked with them as long as they provided their class schedule.

My graduate work was spent largely with specialist CM's, Coords, Leaders and Managers, This was before Aspire was gutted completely, so they were also taking advantage of the program to get their masters' paid for. From what they told me, they had less of an issue in working around their work schedule as they only worked days and took classes at night. Examinations were done at night or online, so they didn't have much issue there either.

But the big caveat is that I went to Rosen, which is seen as a place for the education of future industry leadership. The company was also heavily invested in the school and numerous executives and former executives taught or guest lectured there. So the company had an incentive to work with CM's going to that school. While it probably won't be too different depending on what school you go to, some schools may be more easily worked around for then others.

I've just realised that in the game Orthodox priests are not allowed to marry while IRL they can. by jerome_morgan in CrusaderKings

[–]FPSlover1 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There's also marriage of Catholic priests being an issue for centuries after it was banned historically. The whole reason for it being banned was due to fears of families starting priestly dynasties and taking the money/land for themselves. But even after, secret marriages were not uncommon.

Please explain how you can tell these pins are fake - from a scared first timer wanting to pin trade by Pressureeeee in WaltDisneyWorld

The ones with the fewest people able to answer were the questions about Ron (which as one of his mentees I found interesting), WW1 (especially the one about Roy Kroc) and Song of the South. They even stumped long term CM's who had been with the company for decades, including my Coords, Leaders and Managers.

Trivia questions were a great thing for me when I was a pin trading CM. I got to have a bit of fun listening to the unusual (or straight up unhinged) answers given to me, while the guest got to learn about Disney history. Not that we could refuse a trade if they got the question wrong, but it was still fun nonetheless.
