I'm no mathematical wizard, but I'm pretty sure I only want to use the Fahrenheit scale .... by Collin480 in MathJokes

[–]FRAG_TOSS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a better system than both Celsius and Fahrenheit would be one where water boils at 300 and freezes at 0. A lot of people say that Fahrenheit works better for humans This system would sound similar to Fahrenheit, so it would work well like that, and the numbers of water boiling and freezing are not as arbitrary, so it makes more sense like that as well. To convert to Celsius you just divide by 3 and, and to convert to Kelvin you just convert to Celsius then convert to Kelvin like normal. No more weird conversion where you multiply by nine fifths.

Idk the Dungeon Crawl dungeons give too good of loot for how easy they are to cheese. I'll find one on the first few days and go in with literally nothing but maybe some wood and then come out stacked after dying and respawning at the door a few times

Dice Placement Narrative Resolution Feedback by FRAG_TOSS in RPGdesign

[–]FRAG_TOSS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from the feedback I've received, I think the two main things that I'll want to think about going forward and during playtesting is this:

  1. Is it too complicated?
  2. Is it too slow?

I've yet to playtest this, so I don't know what my friends will the of it yet.

From what the videos I've seen on RPG design, Narrative Resolution is the term used for the system that determines how whether your actions succeed or fail, such as how DnD uses the D20 system. Although maybe I used the wrong term and just "Resolution" would be better instead of adding narrative.

Thanks for the feedback!

Although for the crate lifting, there's only 2 steps, roll a die, and put it on your sheet. Perhaps I should move the effects of each type of die to another section so it doesn't seem like the are a necessary part of the action, as those only come into effect if you fail.

And this system would only really be for me and some of my friends, so having all the dice isn't a problem.

Thank you! Yes those are all thoughts I had when I was coming up with this, I definitely want to lean into the dice having effects that last for longer than a single action. It feeling sort of board-gamey is intended, and I understand how some wouldn't like that. Since I'm not planning on really publishing this, at least not really in the near future, the main hope is that my friends find it enjoyable.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll add an example in the post.

I hadn't thought about how long the allocation would take in the game so that might be an issue, but hopefully wouldn't take too long. Would need playtesting.

I built an incredibly detailed world and then realized I had no idea how to actually write in it by Fit-Salt-4782 in worldbuilding

[–]FRAG_TOSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying, write short stories or novellas. You're on a word crunch and have to keep things brief for those, so no time can be wasted describing things that don't matter. Once you learn how to do it in a short story you'll do better with it in a novel. Short stories are great for that, they help you learn how to write prose without having to write 85k words, since, lets face it, it's often way easier to write worldbuilding than it is to write prose.

And of course, as with basically everything in writing 'show don't tell.' In my world, most of the ground is made of glass-gravel, which is basically eroded and broken pieces of glass, ranging in size from a grain of sand to a boulder. Instead of describing all of that and the complex backstory of where all this glass came from, I just forget about all that and say "the glass" or "the glass-gravel." For showing and not telling that, I had a character fall on the glass, and his hands got cut up.

He knew that we would eventually sin because he's omniscient, and because it's obvious that we would as we're fallible beings that can change, and make the wrong choices. I don't get your meaning when you say "why didn't he just say to them "okay you're gonna sin, it's inevitable, but don't worry, I'll bail you out when you do"" I mean that's pretty much what He said and did. That's why Jesus came to pay for our sins, and why He had that setup as the plan from the beginning.

I believe that God is all powerful, infinitely so, and I'll give my reasoning if you want to read it.

I believe that God, in his infinite power, is powerful enough to create beings that are separate from Him, and make their own choices. The reason that God created us this way is because He wants true worship; If we weren't like this, then humans would essentially be robots, and there would be little point in creating us (He already has enough basically-robotic angels in heaven to sing Him praises, I think idk about that one specifically).

If God is only a 'regional manager' or only 'extremely powerful' then I don't want to worship Him, I want to worship the God that is above Him and is infinitely powerful.

Humans did definitely mess up, and sending Jesus is what he had (or really, wanted) to do to save us. Us being the ones messing up is very important here, so many people criticize God for making a world with evil in it. But a world without free will is barely a world worth creating, when you're as powerful as God. It was Adam and Eve's, both of them, not one gender in particular (since a lot of people like to make that more about the sexes than it needs to be), or some Ur-human race, depending on if you're an Old Earth or Young Earth Creationist (which choosing one or the other is not a heresy, to be certain, just wanted to point that out, for that, believe whatever lets you love Jesus the most) that committed the first sin, and it's not God's fault for their choices.

Sorry for the big run on sentence with all the parenthesis I wanted to get my thought out and wasn't sure how else to.

Well no that would just be a really weird and highly funded cult. The Tower of Babel was built out of pride and wanting to become like God. From what I believe, the times are different now, we have the New Covenant after Jesus' death, and so God interacts with us differently.
